There was a lot in the media some years ago when the 'expenses scandal' happened. To be frank they don't get much different to what I get when going to site and staying away. We get hotels or bnb cost paid. Food anorl. If there's a long term job then renting a place is a lot cheaper. Especially if more than one of you. That comes with a different set of costs like leccy. Wear and tare is agreed but some rents will want you to replace if worn. Never done that as eye has never been away long term.

The bit peeps seem to get upset about is the 'second home' bit. It implies its their home. It is in a way. But peeps hate the idea of them owning it and the costs being paid by the tax man. Especially if they haven't taken it on especially because of their job need. Some have the property already so they're seen to be dumping their on costs on the tax man. I can see why that will annoy. Especially as they can claim for cost of some of the upkeep. They made the rules stricter but the thought of them being able to claim for a washing machine or ironing board annoys annoys peeps. If eye were doing the same job eye would be inuring the same costs so eye would claim for them anorl. It may seem harsh but it's how it is.
Can't disagree with this, but to make people happier all they have to do is insert a clause that says that they can claim the expenses but only on their London one. And only if their constituency is far enough away to make a daily commute impracticable.
It is already not possible to claim on a London property if they have no other property.

There are tough laws about using shotguns, even on your own property. For once being sensible here. Though I doubt @Hippo would dream of using one. One that comes to mind is that you cannot discharge one within either 50 feet or 50 yards (can't remember which) of a property boundary which would knock a lot of us out of it for a start!
Don't take things too literally!!

Eye has looked at pellit guns. They look like real guns. Am not avvin the naybors ringing the fuzz and them turning up to show me their guns. Eye has looked at humain methods and trapping. Eye finks a bait box or snap trap is the way to go.
When we got targeted by Ratty it was someone with an airgun that did the biz. Not on our property but because it had gone onto their's. It seems that one of the locals (all in farming 'ere) was demolishing some farm buildings so the residents, of which there were many, had to move on to pastures new. I had already bought a humane trap but had no success and I was told that even if I had got it I would have had to release it many, many miles away as they do have a very strong homeing instinct.

Any neighbours got a Jack Russell terrier? They are superb rat catchers as long as you have not turned them into lazy pets! :) :)

The trim holds the glass tight against a rubber seal, trim has to be tapped back in with a rubber hammer
Wondering if the relatively new ones in our place are like this. not that it matters we have a sliding patio door to our lounge and double opening doors from there to the dining room, so big stuff is easily moved around. Good to know this can be done!

Spent quite a long while messing around with the ACE system on the Disco. The original fault code on my Foxwell seemed to imply it was the relay. I changed it for a noo one and drove off hoping it would reset.
It didn't.
So I got the Foxwell out, it came up with 4 faults :
0A06 Pressure signal out of range. ????
0E00 Direction control valve fault. :(:(:(
1006 main relay test failed :mad::mad:
1001 Hydraulic pressure too low ????
Cleared the faults, it came back with the OAO6 and the 1006 ones.
Switched off, started it and ran it around a bit more.
Stopped, cleared the faults again and drove off, lo and behold the warning light went off.
Plugged it back in and went for "live data" (this to me is like going into the jungle with just a Swiss army knife)
I then took it out, plugged it into the pooter, all that did was enable it to power up, so I read the 9 "frames" off it, which told me very little except that there was some pressure on the last 2 or 3 frames.
There is plenty of fluid in the reservoir, I checked that before setting off. I haven't changed the ACE filter, it only needs doing every 72K miles and I haven't done that in it, though I doubt it got done by the garages the previous careful owners used.
So, all a bit weird. Just hope the warning light stays off and it was maybe a circuit that had a dodgy connection somewhere.
All four faults did come back. So it really is bonkers. How can the warning light go off if there is a fault?

Me no unnerstan!

Got the Christmas cards all writ last night, off to wrap W's presents, now while she is still out.
Have a good evening folks!

... I bought a dehumidifier. Very impressed so far. 4.5L of the wet breath failed to saturate my bedroom windows last night, so no morning "mop-up" required. Had it running during the day and it has pulled more moisture out of the room.
I brought it downstairs and put it on "Laundry" mode to see if it helps dry the washing she has on the rack in front of the radiator in the dining room. I have been worrying that the wet-air leaking out into the garden room will condense in that room's "cold-roof" so I want to minimise any of that. So far, so good. :D

@Hippo - best release ratty in welshlandshire :vb-micky-mouse:

Do it funny up there. Normally the ladders are fixed to the last truss and the legs built-in to the gable brick or block work ?

Just the same way youd fix it to a timber framed kit, instead of the dwangs sitting on the block gable I can fix them into
the timer either by notching em or use hangers & cheek nail em purely just for extra strength.
