Having worked in a "posh place" I think this is more a question of nationality. We used to get lots of wealthy Merkins, they didn't hesitate to complain!! Not that there was ever much to complain about.
But if this was me I'd go quietly potty. You do not pay good money for sh!t food and service. Why would you?
sounds like there was actually nothing worth the money there, unless the wine was OK.
You do have to complain on the spot. But you can just quietly call the waiter/ess over, ask to speak to the manager and get him/her to say if they think it is worth the money. Make them taste if off your plate.
Eton mess is not supposed to be sour at all.
Plenty of places ont web you can review it and also say if you got redress or not.
Being posh means nothing, any eatery should give value for money.

That wasn't a designer dinner, it was flipping Sunday roast.which a trained monkey should be able to manage.Difficult to find a place that isn't serving expensive designer dinners, maybe I'm just old fashioned
no you are not old fashioned, they have obvs been allowed to get away with it for too long. Maybe the members daren't complain in case they get slung out the club.

I really object to that insensitive comment. It was unnecessary to the discussion. Totally out of bounds. Americans don't complain! There are a few professional "sender-backers" but very few. Far more peeps who daren't complain and just don't go back.
If peeps don't complain how can the owner /manager know what he/she should be doin?
If you watch "Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen nightmares" you'll know what I mean!!

But when one said to me (just one example), "This is the worst lamb I have ever tasted!" (Talking about contre-filet of BEEF) You'll get what I mean.
They were also the fastest to compliment and some of them taught me a lot about how to really make a cocktail which helped me get a reputation for mixing the "meanest" Martini in the area. I am not prejudiced against Merkins, shared flats with them etc.
Just pointing out the fact that they do the right thing although some of them, like some Brits, can be a bit quick to judge.
I can also give examples of other nationalities who got it wrong including lots of Brits.
Sorry if I offended, you are right it wasn't totally necessary to the discussion.

To be fair to them eye was handed a menu. Gave it straight back asking for stake un chips. He went away. 5 mins later eye went over to him un asked ferriit to be well done, like cooked all the way frew. He said he thought it would be. Eye should have reconfirmed at this point worreye wanted. He was new. Eye hurd the females laffin about it later on saying he took the order wrong. Eye'd had a difficult few days away wiv wuk un was lookin forward to it as eye'd been there before. Just bin oot and swept up some leefs. Pulled some nettuls oot. Ah cant be bovvurd to dig em up. Trying to use up space in me wheely bin to gettid value fer money frommit. Packed away me ose pipes from yesdi. When eye washed ma ippo eye snow foamed it. Cheap snow foam fing that rarely creates foam. Fits on the end ov me jet wash. Eye may be wattering it down too much. Eye has aways had the bottle at the bottom. Decided to foam under the sills un turned it upside down. Propper foam blowed oot. Never realised the bottle should go above the jet wash handle. Had it several years.
