Yer probably but its nice to look. :)
It's not the buying of the place that is the problem, it's the cost of doing it up now you can't bring more than £300 of stuff over, and that includes furniture for feck's sake.
(You CAN bring it over but you have to pay import duty and VAT etc if you can't prove you've paid it. It isn't quite as hard edged as that and if it is stuff you have used for ages it'll probably be OK, but....see this, (you have to skim down a bit to "Bringing stuff in to your second home"))
Stuff in France is either not too pricey, but sh!t or pricey and just a bit less sh!t. The only things we bought over here were the granite worktops which WERE cheaper cos we live in a granite area, and one double bed, which was way overpriced for what it is. Secondhand stuff is pricey too.
You should see the cost of paint etc, and wood? Forget it!
Then you have local taxes, and electric. Phone is actually quite cheap. Oh and insurance for a place you don't live in all the time! (By law you HAVE to have basic public liability from the moment you buy a place. That, on its own, actually isn't too expensive.)
Not that I wan to put you off!!!!
It's a great place to live and if the sh!t really hits the fan we may well sell up in the UK.
It's cheaper to buy a new place. Doing em up, well there is a good reason why the frogs don't do it!!:):):)

In on a break having worked at the bottom of our land in a jungle of holly etc, hottish, very sticky and with a fly that likes buzzing round my face!
I've found that the original wire fence has been cut and squashed down over quite a length. Probably quite a long time ago.
There is a thing called a "servitude" (Country path) running along this with nowt but a little forest the other side, so peeps would be able to get in unseen.
Inside it the undergrowth is mostly enough to put people off but there is one biggish patch were peeps and obviously deer can get through.
So fighting with old wire fencing, etc nailing it up with those bloody two pointed things, which are a bit of a battle to get to go in straight at the best of times, but into the hardwood trees there are down there?
I'll finish it off with a healthy load of barbed wire, NOT my favourite job, even in the cool!
"Bonne continuation" Peeps

Is that burglers rights?
No, it covers you against accidentally polluting your neighbour's land or if some kid runs onto your place and breaks their ankle in a rabbit hole.
I think if a burglar hurt him/herself in the act of committing a burglary it wouldn't help them.
There was one in our village that got killed by a guard dog, doubt the insurance paid his family out, if he had one!;)

Wot a day! Serviced dottirs car - 1litre eco boost focus. It hugs the ground, and my home made ramps to raise such vehicles a little, and allow me to get under, just ain't high enough and its still a struggle to get under. (Mainly due to the corpulence of the mechanic I might add, before anybody else does). Undertray removed, sump plug out and oil drained no bother. But getting at the oil filter, at the rear of the engine and halfway up it, tested my agility (lack of it) to the limit, and not having the right oil filter tool didn't help. SO got the traditional splash of hot oil up me sleeve . Got the filter on, plug in, under tray back on and oil in. Air filter, pah! 2 minute job. Spark plugs came out ok, new ones in. No bother. Then ran the engine. Ran ok up to 4k revs then ran like a bag of squit. Suspected a fault in one of the new plugs so put all of the old ones back in with the intention of replacing them again one at a time to isolate the faulty one. But it ran just the same up to 4k and then . Couldn't figure out what the problem was. So took it for a test run out on the road, runs like a race car all the way to the red line. Back on the driveway and its still max 4k rpm. Another test run, same scenario. Can only think that while its static and not in gear, the management system limits the revs to protect the injun. SO got some researching to do. Beer out of the fridge now, and ready for another.
