Yer only rollin back a few yards ter betterer safety
There's lots of reports and commentry on how it should have been done betterer. Problem is none of them have come up wivva solution to reduce the number of crashes. When yer see crashes happen on the cctv yer can see most are down to peeps making mistakes.like driving too close which causes pile ups when peeps cant stop in time. Eye would be happy to see the motorway limit change to 60mph all over the uk. Dual carrageways need ter drop anorl.TBH I have yet to look into this more deeply but I thort the govt was thinking of stopping or at least slowing down the roll out of these?
So I've looked and yes they are pausing it.
https://www.transport-network.co.uk/Govt-orders-pause-on-smart-motorways/17545#:~:text=Ministers have agreed to pause,of data from existing routes.&text=The Government has agreed to,hard shoulder schemes to ALR.
"AA president Edmund King said: ‘The AA has been a major critic of smart motorways in our campaign for over a decade to improve their safety. At last, we have a transport secretary who has made progress and taken a positive and pragmatic approach. He has today accepted many of the measures we have been calling for and our important demand that emergency refuge areas should be no more than three-quarters of a mile apart.
‘We are pleased our call for better evaluation of the stopped vehicle detection technology has been accepted but still question why it wasn’t fitted before schemes opened."
The RAC concur.
and this thing from the Beeb says that although the rate of casualties on SMs has gone down the rate of fatalities has gone up.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59134013#:~:text=Statistically, they are safer than, get through to an incident.
They also say that having traffic moving more slowly is safer.
Of course it bloody is, doesn't take a genius to figure that out, but they could and do already slow it down on three lane + hard shoulder MWays anyway!
So if they want to add one more dodgty lane and slow the traffic right down, to get greater flow through/volume, well why not just drive on an A road?
We went up on the M3 and came back on the A3, Wifey is used to this as she used to commute on both regularly and she was right about how it was much the same time for the journey and far fewer static or very slow moving jams.
...that I just went outside and when I came back in there was a bit of a loud "Bang" in the house.
Sounded like it came from upstairs.
I got the missus to stand on the landing and look up at the ceiling.
Sure enough, when you hold the kitchen door part-way open the wind is so strong the inrush of air into the house lifts the loft trap-door and it slams back down again.
Mystery solved.
They were introduced to allow more volumn of traffic to travel on said road. Theory being to reduce delays and cingestion during peak travel times. Hence why they still look busy even though theres an eggstra lane to use. The smart bit is its ability to change from 4 to 3+h lanes. Unfortunatley it can't solve the problem of motorists driving under red crosses on the signs. Why would you need better safety though? The so called smart motorway was supposed to be safer. Having been back to the UK recently and did a fair bit of smart motorway driving, None of them that I had done previously were any quicker. I don't think its smarter and peeps feel less safe.
Thats my half pence worth.

TBH, I wasn't sure that she would be able to hold the door if the wind grabbed it.I like how you got the missus to stand and look, incase anything was to fall on someone's ed.
Sounds like you have a n other leaky roof thankfully only air this time

We had that happen one nite when eye were a nippa. Eye put screws innit to hold it down so it dint wake me up....that I just went outside and when I came back in there was a bit of a loud "Bang" in the house.

She has trouble opening the back door y'see.

Yes eye'deally. Thats the big problem. Nowt happens by accident. Tissa phrase we use. They're incidents and happen for a reason. There's a reason why peeps drive into anohher car. Stopping time. Wurnt looking. Skidded while stopping - not driving to conditions. Driving while under influence of...So as I said doesnt make the journey any quicker.
Shouldnt we just make smarter drivers.

The easy fix is to drop the speed limit across all lanes permanent
You sure its solved? Might have a bogeyman up there -----Sure enough, when you hold the kitchen door part-way open the wind is so strong the inrush of air into the house lifts the loft trap-door and it slams back down again.

You sure you're going to keep up the pace of this new life?Hi all, its been a busy week! Hope all are well, just a flying visit as I am off out again shortly
I'll go back and do liks and reps later cos I has good news.
Wifey has just got back to me, her mammogram, ultra sound and touch-feelies are not showing a thing.
The lump seems to have disappeared yessdi, cos it was still there Wednesday cos I was allowed to feel it.
They obvs don't know what it was maybe a cyst? But anyway they are happy to tell her she hasn't got cancer at the mo!!!!!
So we are ultra happy.
Shopping came early today due to the wevver. And I had to put it away so I've got my tin hat on for when W comes back and checks how and where I put it all.
It IS blowin up a bit.
Have a safe day all!!!
Agree wiv that. But sheer volumn of traffic at peak times makes a lot of our roads flow at the same speed across all lanes. That's when most crashes happen. Cant fink of a fix other than slowing down to make it safer. Can't see peeps driving betterer. Fone rules got harsher over ere wiv penalty points but eye still see many drivers still using them.I actually disagree with this. Teach proper motorway manners to drivers who hog lanes.
I know in Germany(maybe other european countries too) its an offence and you can get a fine for it.
I will flash somebody to get out of my way when the lane to their left is clear even when I am in the middle lane, and am perfectly fine with it as they are in the wrong simple.
Teach them proper.
