A bit of lubrication helps (no innuendo please), grease / wd40 / oil. Or if really tight, a few drops of petrol (thats how we used to put motorcycle footrest rubbers on back in the day).Mornin peeps.

Oh, does anyone have a trick for getting exhaust hanger rubbers over the flangy bit on the sticky out bit on the tail pipe. Made a right hash of the last one and it's split already..

I'd use washing up liquid as I was told greases etc don't do rubber no good, but then what do I know, not being a pro an orl!!
Hmmmm. I avoid washing up liquid in contact with metal as it contains salts and leads to corrosion. Rubber and grease? - lots of seals and gaskets are rubber / rubber based so I don't see a problem there.
Totally agree about the salt in washing up liquid, which is why I am very stern with anyone who want to use it to wash a car with it!! But the metal under the car will be thicker and constantly attacked by salt off the roads anyway.
Nitrile will cope with oils and hydrocarbons. EPDM will wave a white flag before long
