No more than a couple of miles from a shop. Also, as you say, space becomes a premium once you get close to amenities :(
My wife is much the same as yours.
She is more concerned about where the shops are (vittles, not clothes); where the nearest decent hospital is, and how long a journey back to see her grand-kids?
So, I am stuck here in expensive-ville it seems. :)

The grand-kids is why we didn't move to Wales two years ago when I was still (relatively) healthy. Now we are looking seriously at moving 4 to 5 hours away!

The way I look at it is that I did my stint raising my kids and it is their job to raise theirs, not mine. I think grandparents have earned the right to be as selfish as they like in such matters. ;)

Flights to the US are dirt cheap at the moment. The missis would really like to get over and see the family. Really tempted to book and take a gamble the border will be open in September.
My mate's GF from Louisiana arrived here last week and is staying for 3 weeks, so the border is open in at least one direction ;)

Well, as I am trying to rest my leg wiv the DVT in it, I have been fairly sedentary today. The wevvers been sh!t anyway.
So I took the cellar book that we accidentally left behind in the UK and updated it with the book we wroted down in it all we drank last summer, crossreferenced both and did a stock check.
Then I put it all on a spread sheet like my one for our other place.
Bit boring but the outcome was quite interesting, we have wine from 16 different growers, over 1000 bots and the value is ......well I'm not going to tell you, but I did compare it to all the cars I have ever bought, (and I DO buy them cheap). Was quite frightening.
Why the burglars didn't just fill a lorry with wine when they came I don't know!!
We all have our hobbies and ours is I suppose part of our diet and costs no more than some spend on going out etc.
and we didn't buy it all in one year!
But I am so glad we filled the cellar in the UK before Brexit as each bot we bring over now will cost us £2.60 min If we go over the allowance of 24 bots each.
So we've got enough to last us 5 years! If we don't entertain, which is currently being curtailed by our friend Mr Covid.
Have a nice evening folks. :):):):)

Never having read any of this Harry Potter sh!t I actually had to google, "muggle" and if that is what I am, then I am happy being one!!!!!:):):):):)
It's a great little saga for kids.
I prefer my Sci-Fi and Fantasy books.
The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant is very good.
The "Dune" series is excellent (the new film is due, with decent CGI effects).
Far and away my favourite is the much under-appreciated "Saga of the Exiles" Quadrilogy by Julian May.
