It is a trade off. The gib is designed to be a wear item that can be replaced. You can, just whilst parting, nip down one gib screw as a slide lock.I went out to the "shop" for a little play with the lathe.
I was disappointed to find the compound/cross-slide moved far too much on all parting attempts. I could see it visibly "dancing about".
I have tightened the gibs on the cross-slide and it certainly feels much "TIGHTER" but at what point does tightness induce early wear/unusable action I wonder?
Don't let it freeze!Need ter fill some cement gaps int ma garage. What mix does eye need? 5 sand ter 1 sment?
What's the lowest temp eye can do this so it dries propper?
