Leave house call running and see what it finds. Then restart windows. If norton won't connect to the web and update, then talk to norton to get it resolved.

When its sat at the windows password don't log int straight away. Give it time to continue loading before hitting enter after the password is entered. You'll see the hard drives activity led coming on less when its loaded all its drivers etc. Then hit enter.
Mate I will follow this to the letter as I know feck all about it.
Never knew that thing about not clicking once I have entered my password. i'll have to see which LED is the one for hard drive activity, i havve 4 on the front edge of the laptop and I only know that one tells me when it's connected to the mains. there are four symbols, left hand one is like a cylinder, next in is a triangle with a tail from the lower point and summat inside it too small to see even with a magnifying glass!, next in is worn out but is, i think, the one for connection to the mains and the right hand one is also worn out!
If that helps!

At a guess, it will be the cylinder.

When activity (flashing) reduces it means it's loaded all its drivers and programs. So the phooter is in betterer shape for when yer log int. Eye have a fast as **** i7 at wuk and eye still give it time to boot. ;)

If yes got one of them cars that opens up automatically as the key/remote goes near it, ter should get it disabled. Too easily nicked by using a transmitter to detect the signal from the key in yer house, and amplify it to yer car and drive oft.

Good news is they were never daft enough to fit this silly option to Freelander's.

Well it hasn't worked, the scan was left to run and it got stuck at 38% for well over an hour. So I went back to the other thing to see if I could download the minimal virus checker thing and got exactly the same response as before.
so i think i am stuck with trying to get Norton itself to play ball.
Such a shame as it looked as if I was going to get an easy fix.
Such a fecking pain.
Bloody virus inventers. Why can't they see it doesn't really hurt the primary target, Microsoft, just fecks up the lives of those ordinary peeps like you and me who try to use it.
