To give you hope, we live here in a house with only one (guest) bathroom finished, the other bathroom (main) is half tiled but not grouted, the bog is not nailed to the floor (but is at least connected), only one basin is plumbed in, the bath is not and the shower is currently a bit of tatty concrete on the floor, no waste connected and no pipes connected, and it has been like that for the past 5 years. Before that it was totally bare and not usable in any way for the previous 7 years. But we still can live here.Just got back from the house.
We managed to fit all the tricky kitchen units and fix them solidly to the walls.
The quote for the bathroom tiling is in (£1k). (that will teach him to get all arty-farty with a huge shower-enclosure, double ended bath and a bum-gun beside the toilet and to go for 2' x 1' porcelain tiles).
The quote for the Worktop fitting is in (£280).
He has run out of money I think.
I am so tired.

I take it he is having a granite worktop or somesuch and thus cannot do it himself? Cos others are not too hard to fit.
And tiling really isn't that hard, the bigger the tiles the less time it takes to stick em up!!! Can't believe he ain't going to do that himself!
Still feeling your pain, and know your foot must be itching to kick his backside! (He could move in if he was prepared to put up with a temporary worktop and with just the essentials plumbed into the bathroom, while he saved up)
Get a doctors note to say he'd better get on with it or you won't be responsible for your actions!

Already indebted to me for a huge sum and I am rather unwilling to help further.
This is where he goes round me to his mother, so she can bleat in my other ear (usually).
Just not keen on paying MY WAY out of HIS troubles....AGAIN. So they can rough-it for a while.

Totally agree. Just tell him the Bank of Dad is closed due to Covid 19 and will not be opening for the forseeable.

You are correct but that was really true for furnishings. Nowadays, the young ones seem to read some of the many 'HOUSE' magazines and firmly believe that with those ideas they should begin life rather than end with it.

When I think of what my ex and i laughingly called furnishings when we moved into our first house in 1984. Only new things we bought were a bed and a wardrobe (MFI who remembers them?)

We had 2 kitchens before we got our final 1, oh the second 1 even had a sink
. The drain was straight out the wall onto the drive 1 floor up same as the shower.We are much the same as @Stanleysteamer by the sounds of it, “work in progress” loads of little bits need finishing but it’s an adventure.
All I can say if if it’s safe for the kids then there is no reason to not move in.
