Ah ok.

Pub meet sounds great idea dont know how many people would be able to commit.

Have you found a suitable salisbury axle yet for your 110? Im looking at one soon i only want the axle ends and brakes. Spitfiremk1uk is about to rebuild his rear salisbury for his 88 new crownwheel and pinion etc all new shims and seals so I will try and have a look see. I will have the diff spare from my 90 after my axle swap takes place somtime this year.

im thinking, having spoken to kris, it might be worth canning the salisbury for a normal unit. cheaper when things go wrong, which admittedly will be more often, but chuck a diff guard on it, and perhaps once the new tyres arrive for belize some HD half shafts and what not, but its far less of a pain in the ass when a standard diff goes wrong compared with a salisbury!

RE. pub meet, i will have a look, some time late in march i think is a good shout, will put some info up on here, and then put a thread in the off topic also, see how many people we can get together

agreed less hassel.
If you want to sell your axle ends and calipers/mounts let me know cos ive found an axle but the guy is being a right funny git over me only using just the ends

ill keep an eye out for a late axle. Ill ket you know what i find.

Really you want a 4 pin diff but the diff alone are circa £250 so may have to go for a standard 24 spline (so you can later upgrade to HD shafts) rear axle.

to get a decent salisbury you are looking at 250 so if one comes up i may have 250 available - but wouldnt that put me back to square one with the whole repair cost scenario?

i cant say for certain as yet lots of things i need to sort out inbetween, although I would like to think i woukd be there and would like to get there but it depends on a how i get on in the mean time.

Think I may have confused ya.
4 pin 24 spline rover diff is the strongest rover diff and is not a salisbury it will fit rover axles and not salisbury axles. It is a direct replacement for any rover 24 spline diff like the one in the front of your 110. So if you blow one up you can fit a £40 special from ebay til you get another. I suggest a 4pin cos (lets be honest you give it some grief) and its on a 110 that you intend on taking away with you so the stronger the better to begin with IMHO.

4 pin rover diffs are the triallers choice for arc events and they get grief but........ When a trialler is stuck its pointless trying hard spinning wheels for more than a few seconds (making the diff centre work billio and likley to cause damage) if your stuck your stuck! Wait for a tow from a marshall. 4 pins very rarly break or get damaged but do if pushed.

also a trialler weighs max 1200kgs and runs a decent 750 tyres 32/33 inch going any bigger than 34 inch and driving harsh turns rover diffs/shafts into cheese. A 110 could possibly be 3050kgs 3 times the weight of the usual trials vehicles and running bigger tyres than standard only brings more problems to shafts/diffs/drive train especially when waving wheels and dropping them. If you add to that 20 years of wear or high milage components your just asking for grief.

p.s i think with a salisbuury rear axle you keep the MAM of your 110 if you changed to a rover axle it will affect your 110 load capacity me thinks.

i do believe so,

Dont know the nearest comparable vehicle mabe a RR LSE at 108 inch on rover axle opposed to a salisbury it may be a bull**** comparison but ave a look see what their MAM are.
I think i heared somwhere that the latest 110's use wolf or HD rover axles to keep the MAM up there think they are all 4pin 24 spline.

Throwing on an old disco axle might not be best. Even if I could do with your old axle ends lol.

nope im taking my time with the 110, so i dont mind waiting for the right axle!

Don't you think that maybe having a pub meet on April 1st is a bit risky?

was meant to be 31st march, but seeing as that thursday is the day before a bank holiday it means most people wont be working so it works better

risky yes, but im sure that could make it more interesting!

You know what... sometimes people are ****s.

BUT Sometimes people are solid gold. Went to the tip and noticed a single cylinder engine on a lawn mower. Just been offloaded by the bloke in front of me. Well, I've been looking for just such a thing to teach kai how the internal combustion engine actually works so I spoke to the bloke who was running the tip and he invited me to simply take it away! Quality, and now Kai has an engine to strip!

THEN

Went out to a purveyor of mild steel the other side of eaton bray. Found an offcut of box section about 6 foot long that is perfect for Kai's latest project. Spoke to him and got me wallet out expecting to pay a tenbner for such a find... but no. He looked at Kai and then told us to take the box section, do wiuth it what we will and go back again.

Sometimes people's generousityies leave me reminded that there are people out there who really do want to help the kids in this town.

Fair play to them!

Just a heads up on the replacing a salisbury with a rover axle.

The max axle weights are drasticly reduced by fitting a std rover axle.

The wolf uses a specially strengthened axle case. Very late 110 with a "rover looking" axle is also beefed up.

Think thicker case and internally sleeved with pipe. Just like the old warrior AWDC racers were doing years ago. A real wolf back axle weighs near the same as a salisbury.

Now you will need a decent condition 4 pin diff centre. The crown wheel will need pegging to get similar strength as a salisbury unit and then you need good shafts. Ashcroft do a decent replacement with a 5 year no hassle garantee if you should ever break one. You wont!

Bummer is that it costs serious bucks. More if you get a locker etc. And you still have lost your payload capacity.

240 4 pin centre.
260 Rear shafts
240 Diff pegging
+ VAT
+Fitting
+New bearings
+Good doner diff

Typicaly allow 1200 for a good front axle and 1000 for a decent rear set up.

And that assumes you do the work yourself.

A good salisbury is the cheapest and most effective back axle upgrade you can get as far as strength is concerned. if you guys (I am aiming at jai here) spent an hour removing the mud from your brakes after dipping your car in slurry your rear brakes would remain very effective and you also get a chance to check your car for damage etc.

Thanks jai I got the pics.

everoyone else has disk brakes lol I'm the only one that has kept drums on the back and although they are more efficient than disk brakes la la they are a pain in the ass whereas you can kinda steam down disks and pads pretty well without taking the wheel and drum off. You are never going to clean the drum and shoes propperly without doing so after every whaddon/flanders trials/greenlaning. Agreed checking for damage is always good and worthwhile, i'll keep holding out for a disk braked back end cos i like disks all around.

P.s Spitfire, we have some renewals for alrc im gonna rejoin kinda the idea with the ccv thing in the garden again at some point. Think the last trial put you off a bit tho. I might go volunteer to help out at the next comp safari aswell i can do with selling this transfer boxes and diffs. Jai
