Hi Kev, it is getting there. Finished with your Jack, many thanks for that will drop it over to you on the morrow.

Just bolting it all back together now, ordered new UJs for the props, in the end only one needs to be replaced but it is just as well to carry a spare methinks. Building up a reserve of tab washers and other consumables too as a safety measure ;)

Rear prop is well seized, no back and forth movement and UJ doesn't flex either so I am guessing trhat was the cause of the failed output bearing in the first place. MOT should be imminent as soon as I get the motor moving again.

How about you... all set to play yet?

Glad to hear you're on the finishing line. I'm not in bad shape, engine all back together and running sweet. Tomorrow I'm hoping to do rear diff pinion seal and an overhaul on the prop shafts, might replace the ball joint gaiters as well. Will need a new rear section for exhaust, it is too loud the way it is - straight through with just a small cherry bomb on the back.

shall we put a theoretical bet on what it could be?

I'll have transfer gear/gearbox output shaft slop,
Worn drive flanges/shafts only due to the milage it has covered,
UJ's,
Jai

hmm

If you've only notice it since you took the thick mats out then put the mats back in.problem solved.
 - but good plan lol

I'll have a go... track rod ends perhaps, worn exhaust rubbers loose gearbox/engine mount

hmm

O.K. I'll bite. I'll take A frame bushes/ball joint, worn prop UJ and sloppy diff?

Guess that should cover it between us.

oh god - i think i might need help on this one!

picked up some 8" britpart spots from the previous owner today. need to get a lightbar but then that will be up and running. while im at it i will probably also get a steering guard - to prevent any of that bollocks happening again!

but yea - free spotlights are alwys nice! shame about the 4 hours driving round in circles in london because of a multitude of accidents preventing me getting home!a

You have only to ask... no expert meself but there are plenty here, and if you need more muscle or some extra tools n a suuporting pint ( I always carry an extra can of Abbott just for those occasions) just post or call.

BTW gang... Kai's been up to his neck in it tonight, going at the prop with a big hammer, removing the circlips ready to fit a replacement UJ and most importantly... organising his new toolbox and the tools in it. (Funny how my toolbox seems so much lighter this evening ;))

Thinking about doing a mini series of photos... landy maintenance for the 9 year old... what do you think worthwhile?

Hi there Gents.

I have completed my suspension mods 2day, so will be ready to test it out at santa pod lanes next weekend. Please include me on any PMs with details. It'll be good to see the dirty stuff again.

Hi all hope alls well

I should be back on the road tomorrow gearbox is back in most parts back together only have exhuast props and cubby box to refit then gotta change the oil in the engine and front diff then all sorted (till next time)

For those who are intrested the problem with the gearbox turned out to be that it snapped the welds on third gear so it split apart will post some pics of it tomorrow.

Hope to see you all soon im gonna try and find a beer!!

Hello jai

Yeah it was a pain in the @rse but got there in the end. My dad wanted to help and managed to split his head open while helping not good when he is taking wolfarin (cant spell) so his blood is thinner and not clotting:doh:.

As for harlington i will be up for it on friday just let us no what time you heading down and ill meet you there

The good thing about having the gear box out i managed to sort a few problems out and i no have a reverse light and the 4wd light works on the dash. But other then that yes it was a pain doing it less then a month after doing the clutch. never mind all fun so people say

hey guys... I know there's a web site for researching the history of a land rover based on the chassis number... does anyone know what the site URL is?
