I've already got a winch. I'm going to put lights ****ing everywhere so I'm lit up like a christmas tree!!!! A fridge for camping, also hook up some kind of set up for my laptop and chargers etc. Then who knows.

I like getting carried away. :mil3:

OK well snow stopped play this afternoon but it was at around 4.30 ao the afternoon was drawing to a close in any case.

The extra gaiter turned up yesterday and Kai and I got to work with the drive shaft today. Took db's advice and split the CV from the diff end. This has to be one of the gungiest jobs on the car! As usual once everything was stripped down, the actual replacement was fairly straightforward. A couple of strange clips that took a while to remove but things are definitely moving along.

It's still rewarding to see how quickly Kai is learning. He's really trying hard but is limited by his physical strength... the breaker bar is his new best friend!

good to see that chris surely you should be learning to lol slave labour isnt it getting your lad doing the work hehe but seriously its good to see how keen he is to do it all looks like we will have a mobil mechanic with us soon by looks of things

Well done Kai and Chris' hope the shogun will be operational soon.

I have fitted twin batteries to my 90 minimal work knocked up a battery mount using angle from B and Q and the mig welder. I didn't bother with split charge relay I just wired the twin batteries in parallel. Split charge would be ideal but figured it is another thing to go wrong when you don't need it to. I have used the winch for possibly a couple of hours mabe three on and off with only a few mins in between 15/20 minute stints (When we retrieved a certain Shougun from 40 foot) and I am more than happy with the ammount of punch the twin batteries give out and Understand that if they go flat they go flat together la la. I will be adding a solar battery charger and low voltage warning indicator in the dash when I get around to it. Made a start with the on board computer system. Started to build the 2nd watertight bulkhead that will hold the 2 inverters (150W and 300W), pc, stereo amp and a couple of speakers. It started to snow about 5.30 so I gave up and will resume works tomorrow evening. Next mod Uprated alternator and possibly a second alternator. Fitted the A/C pump aswell today just need to wire it up to the dash switch and test for operation. Then its time to fit the air tank plumb up and we have air! I need it with all these punctures Ive been avin' Jai

So amany ideas and no time!. As you have probably already guessed I hate spending money on my 90 there is usuallky a way around it that is practical and perfectly fit for purpose. Jai

I came to the conclusion that throwing it in all the places I used to throw it was not helping my cause of getting it ready for an overland trip one day, it always sent me 2 steps back. We have aquired an old 1962 88 for the serious stuff after a bit of work for its MOT. To be fair I have always got away with my 90 no serious injury or body damage-to vehicle only a slight dent in the roof when we ended up on a tree and on one wheel, at a brickhill trial. That sh*t up my passenger! funny that, he hasn't come trialling with me since. Anyhow I don't mind doing the rough lanes as they are never that bad and if they are we shouldn't be there. but I want to try and get the 90 ready for overlanding so one day when the mortgage is alot lower and me and the Mrs have ticked off a few more of our life goals I can take my 90 bits-a that I built somewhere nice in the knowledge that what ever goes wrong within reason I can fix it and continue on to the next destination. And that film Ice cold in Alex always makes me wanna drive to Alex for a well deserved Cold Beer. So i guess thats another life goal to write down! Jai

Ferengi Law of Aquisition no 123...

Exploitation begins at home ;)

He is learning fast. Sometimes he even comes up with inovative ideas for getting the stubborn bolts out or moving that difficult oil seal. With the exception of the strength I would say that there are a number of jobs that he can now undertake without me there (except for safety reasons of course). He can certainly remove wheels, change brake pads, top up fluids, check diff oil levels and refil, change the radiator, disconnect and safely reconnect the battery, (It is a little heavy for him to lift into position just yet), change the anti roll bar bushes, his next job is to learn how to change the wheel bearings, (they are different on a landy!).

He has also learned how to... traipse oil into the kitchen and blame his dad

get every pair of jeans he ownes so covered in oil that his mother will not allow him in the lounge in anything more than underpants

get his face so covered in oil that he might be ready for combat camouflage

avoid getting blood from the hole in his hand where the screwdriver slipped, onto the kitchen floor

understand that having clean components is far more important than his favourite tee shirt

I have yet to teach him successfully that:

Dad has ideas too

Dad is never wrong (sometimes inaccurate, occasionally mis-informed, maybe a little inaccurate, but NEVER wrong)

When something works it is down to dad, when it goes wrong it is his fault

It is MY landy not his project vehicle

Oh yes and finally...

It makes my chest swell just as much as his when he gets it right!

I may not be driving my motor as much as I would like... but we are having fun getting it ship shape!

Wrong, It's LRM that have moved locations, LRO have taken over Billing for this year on the normal weekend. It's just the normal magazine wars.
