not diesel in the exhaust as that would have cleared when i took it down the estate for a good run in the lanes

how do i turn the fool down on a CAV pump

and how do i check the spray pattern

cam timing is critical on those very few ive seen know how to get them bang on during rebuilds, injectors also you can test them on pipes above the engine to check good spray pattern ,cam timing can be checked looking at rear ep mark on flywheel and dti on rocker

whats the DTI

and whats the correct procedure ( great sensae of mechanical wisdom) :D:D

im wondering if the pump is shagged coz knowing my luck with being skint right now it bloody well will be and probably want stupid ammounts of cash spendin to recon the fekker

test injectors one at a time with a pipe ,obviously facing away from you as spray can go straight through skin ,dti dial test indicator http://www.google.co.uk/aclk?sa=L&a...ode=raw&rct=j&q=cheap+dial+test+indicator+kit
dwell on exhaust fully open is about 4 degrees wich is more than enough for smoke ,you watch rocker going down just before fully open you take note of needle position and mark fly wheel through hole ,turn engine till rocker has gone through fully open and back to same needle posiion ,mark fly wheel ,if right ep mark should be in the middle of your 2 marks (it takes a few goes to know how far before fully open t get marks in suitable place on flywheel so all are visible )

reet as promised ive tried the injectors and its deffinately not them

todays efforts were testing the injectors witth them aiming away from me and they sprayed mist fine not a squirt but looked gunked up to fook so i soaked them for 4 hours in injector cleaner mixed with a bit of thinners and they came up like brand new

while they were soaking i borrowed a brand new set from a mate that works in our local auto parts shop wich made absolutely no difference to the running or the smoke problem so the old ones went back in after a blody good cleaning

now im down to either the cav pump or the piston rings

what would you lot do first :confused:

i would take it to your nearest diesel repair garage and get them test your pump timing they do it with a device that clips on to no 1 cylinder injector pipe, picks up the pulse through the pipe and fires the strobe

that just aint an option for me itll just cost way too much

garage is gonna want £50 for the test and frigging about
only garage that can do that is 15 miles away
vehicle not taxed not MOT'd and not insured so needs a trailer or truck to take it there wich will be another £150 just for that

money i just dont have with being on SSP and having a family of 4 to feed and 2 greedy blood sucking meters under the stairs

id rather spend me scrimpings and savings on things such as rings pumps and injectors so even if its not those at fault i know theyre gonna be right for a fair time after its sorted

Diesel problem is normaly black smoke, blue smoke is normaly oil, being burnt somehow valve gides, piston rings, maybe crankcase pressure; going up breather back through air intake.

so what happens if i take the oil breather pipe off the intake fanimold

if it stops the injun smoking does it mean piston rings

and if it dunt does it mean valve guides frigged :confused::confused:

snot gunna kill the engine if i do this is it :confused:

anyone know what the compression rating should be for a 2.25 diesel 3 bearing tratter injun

im gonna borrow a compression tester tomorow

Does it smoke worse after a long period (overnite) when you first start it up? If it does could be valve gides as oil seeping down through head; should smoke less after a minute as oil will be burnt. If no difference then maybe rule that one out.

Check your cam timing first then your pump timing, once you know they are spot on if it still smokes see if you can borrow the kit and do a cylinder leakage test. then you are pretty much left with the pump.

valve guides can be ruled out as i did the valves reground them and replaced the valve stem oil seals during this i found no leeway on the valve guides just a lovely smoothe running fit :cool:
