there often loose when cleaned ,but can be fitted with copper hammer etc if not if loose put a little loctite to hold them in it will burn off ,they should stick proud a couple of thou and gasket hold then tight rather than fit as they are supposed to remain very hot

right this should be a laugh tomorow then :D:D:D

now before i bugger orff te bed ( coz i wear the pants in our house and ive got her permission to say so )

id like to thank all advisers experts and entertainers in advance and bid yer all a verry good night indeed :D:D:D

ps sorry for the multi-posting i was just panicing :5bwilly_nilly::5bwilly_nilly:

heeeelllloooooo out there !!!!

a little update on me findings between rain storms and showers

finally got the head off and found this mess sandwiched in there wich begs the question how the hell was it running with that in

now another thing ive noticed is these composite gaskets are supposed to be fitted dry without the bloody compound gunk stuff but the old gasket was baked on must have boiled up a fair few times in the past with how its practically welded to the block and head
its only when i got to cleaning the head it seems its been bodged by painting the gaskets with some kind of varnish

and heres me head all de coked with the oven cleaner valves re-lapped and new valve stem oil seals fitted and ready to go

just wish it wasnt persisting down out there or id have had her running again by now

its not unsual for a gasket to end up like that considering its been passing gasses over a good part of it for some time

im just praying this cures me oily smoke problem

but it looks to me like the gasket has failed between the oil ports and cylinder edges as all that side of the gasket was saturated in the stuff :rolleyes:

heads come up good ,doesnt looked cracked between valves which can be common ,what are bores like still see some cross hatch not to much of a ridge on passenger side

Careful not to drop swarf / crap down the pistons. turn engine until they're all halfway, smear round with a good bit of grease then when finished rock gently and scrape out grease and crap with the top off a fag paper packet or similar.

Also, get all the oil and ****e out of the bolt holes otherwise they pressurise up and give a false torque reading and/or a cracked block if full of water...

Should run a sight better when you've finished! Looking good - keep posting them pictures!

still throwin it down out there so just a quick shot of pot 1 as i had to stop cleaning to keep the rain off the bare metal surface

to me it looks a little glazed with some oily staining to the drivers side ive done the test for leakage past the rings with WD40 in the pots overnight and not lost any so i assume the bores and rings arent too bad

got a ****ty old vacuume cleaner for things like this that i rescued from a skip n i just cant kill it :cool:

definately not the worst ive seen

thing is the way the head and bores look and the fact there was only verry fine hairline cracks in the pre combustion caps and the new looking valve springs also the hand stamped 5 digit number where the engine number should be is leading me to believe this is a recon engine probably in the last 10 years or so at the most :confused:

seriously verry annoyed with this now

since i bought the bugger its smoked its balls off i advanced the pump wich stopped the white smoke but highlighted the blue smoke this coupled with the oil weeping from under the head caused me to do all this with the head gasket and decoke now its not leaking oil running like an absolute dream but still smoking its arse off

what have i missed do i need a new pump or could it be the piston rings does anyone have any educated suggestions for this problem

ps the smoke is kinda grey thick at tickover and smells of parraffin or white spirit

it cant be the timing as the bugger runs too well and when i advanced the pump i did it right upto the point of getting diesel knock then backed off a little till it ran perfect

please can anyone help me :confused::confused:
