ive got a weird oil leak from the head gasket at the water pump housing end

i have cleaned up the entire engine and run her twice now and got a drbble from the same spot twice now

would it stop if i torqued the head bolts down a bit more or do i just change the head gasket and be done with

thing is the engine is running sweet as with no missfires but its burning a little oil possibly in that first pot

and me biggest question is if i remove the head when removing the pushrods from the block is it like the mini where theres a danger of the cam followers disloging or is it ok to remove these rods without that worry

ill get some pics in a minute hang on :cool::smokin::smokin:

Cam followers are held in sliders which are held in by the row of bolts on the side of the engine so you should be safe...not sure about diesel but the petrol head had plugs in where there could be an oil feed (but there isn't it comes up on an external pipe at the back). When you've got the head off better check all the right plugs are in!

I didn't have any problems with removing the pushrods when I did mine.

If you need a headgasket set I'd recommend these.

Johnny: RTFM, download workshop manuals from here: pdf Land Rover Manuals | Landroverweb.com

It's pretty clear, roughly start in middle and work out in a circle...

I was warned off copper gaskets by folks at automotive comp for my stage 2.1 head...not sure why they look shiny!

ive just been and bought the bearmach complete top end set from the stockport landy specialist

this is a composite gasket but has some kind of silver crap sprayed on it

it was either bearmach or ****part both at the same price

done a bit of stripping and taken the injectors out to find pot 1 absolutely ****ed through with oil same as whats ****in out from under the head in the same area

just to settle me mind a little can i just strip the head off without having to lock the crank or anything for the timing or will it be ok :confused:

you wont affect the timing or anything else, just whip the bolts out and lift it off,
no need to skim most of the time, but clean well, you will have cracks in the pre-combustion chambers, this wont hurt unless really bad, they can be replaced if so.

nice one fella

reet now ive been out and took the head off and the head gasket has gone between the oil valve rod port and the cylinder on evry pot and right round the oilways at the front end and looks like its been burning oil for quite a while as the entire head gasket is saturated and the pre combustion chambers are coked up to feck

its gonna be an interestin day cleaning this lot up in the morning and im gonna do the valve stem oil seals while ive got it open

while i do these stem oil seals is it worth re lapping the valve seats while im at it or will it be ok :confused:

replace them if cracked ,new valve guides arent expensive and can be hammered in with a specially made drift if you cant press them in

theyre not cracked its that ive took the glow plugs out and they wouldnt come out easily coz of a big ass carbon build up on the tips wich indicates to me the chambers need cleaning out

whats the best method without fookin the chambers up :confused:

is it just a case of loads a pipe cleaners and some kind of cleaning **** ??

as i said suitable punch through injector hole ,once out injector shroud is also removeable using ball bearing over hole and punch
