I was just wondering if there was anything around the Manchester area I've never done it before but wouldn't mine having a go and seeing what my car can do but nothing major as I haven't got the experience for owt like that just a few learner lanes where I can get my wheels a little muddy

Also tips on what I'd have to get before hand or anything else

Many thanks stu

Have a read of the sticky threads regarding going greenlaning they'll give you pointers on what to look for on O.S. maps. B.O.A.Ts (bridleway open to all traffic) and unclassified county roads (UCRs). You need to check with the local authority to see if you're allowed to drive the lanes; they may be closed to vehicles either temporarily or permanently :( TRO'd) traffic restriction order.

Some councils have online facilities, sometimes tied into google maps etc. which is helpful (Lancs County Council have MARIO - maps & related info online. ;)

What else do you need? A working 4x4 :D It isn't advisable to go out on your own in case you get stuck! Breakdown recovery companies usually only operate on tarmac ;)

Thanks for that difflock

I have been reading up on the lanes about boats and such and i wouldn't go on my own i wouldnt mind tagging along with a small group who could put up with a newbie lol

Also my 90 is ok i suppose no winch or anything just
Steering guard, 2" lift kit, 265 75 16 insa turbo tyres and tree sliders off 300tdistu when they are ready other than that, thats about it for my 90 if thats suitable for green laning

Well...... I suppose it's just about adequate...

LOL! Bloody hell - it's better equipped than my stock Disco 2!! Of course it's suitable :high5: :high5: Have you had a look at the W.Yorks laning/Christmas laning threads? you'll have seen where mine has gone ;) Even stock Landys are awesome my friend!

Bear in mind some green lanes are quite flat and gravelly or at least some sections are - normal cars could negotiate them.

Don't know of any Manchester area groups or outings, but you'll be pleasantly surprised at the Landys capabilities when you do go out.

Yeah i will keep my eyes out on threads thanks

And yeah i know they are good my father has had them since i can remember but has never been off road or anything so didnt know what would be suitable or not and no i havent i will have a look at that thread thanks

Glad you have posted this, I would like to hear from anyone in this area too.

I am currently looking for some lanes in this area for a special trip.

The fairly smooth easy ones are what I need on this occasion. Nothing too bumpy and definitely not anything extreme.

And you will be welcome on one of our West Yorkshire laning trips, just watch the thread. I put details of trips on the first post (as well as the pages of rubbish which follow :D:D)
