angus/hippo...c'mon then first one up with pics will still get a 1p chew!

I wonder if Sasha is serious about this, things that you go hummm! Break it down now!!

My money is on No No..........

Then ya gotta fink if it's a He-Sasha or She-Shasha (on the sea shore)??

Not sure at the mo, I'm at work, what colour is it?

For the handbreak you'll need to take off or atleast loosen off and lift centre console you'll see the wires going to the handbreak if you do as I'm sure they trail under the carpet up to a point. Could be wrong about that, was over 5 months since I looked.

Accelerator feed....... you've lost me for your new unit!?

Cheers Angus....

I fitted the unit quite easily and it appears to work fine. Not connected the handbrake cable yet (Like the idea if a switch to ground). Where can you pick up the steering wheel control cables from?

Depends on a couple of factors, does the unit you've got support steering wheel controls? Check the booklet it should say, mine it's included with all the normal wired on the plug then I have to program it like you would when setting a TV remote with memory, so when my unit says turn Vol up, I hit the paddle on the steering wheel so on and so on.

If it dont support it I think your stuck? not sure if you can add anything to it (another aftermarket unit?) They do sell them but on the net, Failing that you'd have to open up the unit and fit missing parts which as it sounds is a bugger! Not the way forward unless your a Engineer!

Haha I love it, guess what's arrived today whilst I was at work..... Post Office slip was waiting for me to collect an item from sorting office!! Yahoooo, I'll be down first thing tomorrow morning!

So Hippo when you planning on doing it???

well just opened mine.

it looks real nice, good quality.

a few things to ask.

regarding the sat nav, in the instructions it mentions about setting it all up, it says when you have inserted the SD with the nav on it it asks to point the unit to the start up file which they have listed it as being a .EXE file

so im guessing the unit is definetly running a windows system.

so im going to try the windows mobile version of the navigon and see if that does the trick.

next, remote steering.

if i remember rightly, mine has a small 3 pin plug for the controls, and my new head unit also has three cables to be attached for the steering remote.

so im guessing i just have to match the correct 3 cables in the right order.

saying that i think that all the cables are in one landrover plug / harness. i bought a harness adapter for my existing unit which has the adapter for the steering control cables, so im sure i can make it work somehow.

its good as in the unit you can program what you want the steering controls to do, example to pause, volume, next etc..

i have 2 buttons with each button having 2 positions. so i can set 4 different options.

im going to do the usual, volume up, down, track number next, and track number back.

maybe it will let me program as pause as the two buttons being pressed together ?? who knows lol :D

im going to install the GPS antenna on the screen by the rear view mirror as someone gave me that good idea lol

lastly where the feck do i install the small freeview antenna, im guessing on the roof is best lol but thats not possible, so i was thinking maybe in the small void you have in the the interior light area in the ceiling. its only a tiny unit.

might install both antennas in the ceiling void ;) then i dont see them lol

hopefully this will be ok :p

cant wait to fit it now.

sunday should be the day, want to try it now, will a 12v dc PSU do the trick ?? :D

thanks

It's like a shopping list!!
OK when your unit is plugged in and your ready to install the Software for the GPS it will ask you to direct the unit to .EXE, so what that mean is when you first use the gps, it's going to ask you to fix a file path, so you'd go into the memory card, into IGO8 and then you should see .EXE, highlight the app and that's it, it should load up and remember the path, if you make a mistake you can reset the system or keep forcing errors until the system auto hardrests then you start again.

One thing Winc can do on you is, if you say open a photo on your screen (saved on SD/or internal mem and then you want to use the Nav, you will get an error saying memory issue not enough something like that when opening nav software, all it is the picture is still open in the background, so you have to go back and close the picture prop, it then free's up the memory and uses it on the GPS..... Keep that in your head just in case!! It's not broken it's just winc............

3 pin sounds right as does program the controls should give you steps in manual.

Navigon may well work, just depends on version, give it a go!!

Freeview, now that's the bugger, I'd def give it a go, but might work better if you can place it outside of the car somewhere? Errrr behind the grill perhaps or under wheel arch? Saying that you could change it to a roof fin unit!

that looks like the same sat nav software that my one is sold with.

its called sygic :p

As mentioned they all use the same maps, poi etc, it's just dif colours, layouts and extra apps that's the dif.

That's how you can download a map for mine and it would work in yours!!

nice pictures mate.

might have to get you to send me that lovely start up picture :D

thats if i can do that with mine :p

Dude it's there to be used if you want, just view picture click on it again so it opens up in explorer, right click and choose edit, it should open in Paint, it's already at the right size for you, Choose save as, Name it loading (all small case)
and change the properties to .BMP Job done. Depending on what Software you settle with depends on where the screen goes within.
