OK I did put new bolts in the wheels wonder if any are slack, will check. apart from that does it sound OK ish ?

I removed the rocker cover just to check oil getting splashed around , you could gap,the valves too

Getting worried Now. Fired it up tonight and can hear this, don't know if its hitting off something, seems to be louder at gearbox.

Will check tomorrow, what do I do to check tappets,? I know they are under the rocker. Could the head gasket be gone ?

I remember now I done the Tappets on a 200tdi once. Will check them and if they are out will set them up again. How would the Manifold or Head Gasket cause that noise ?

If there’s a leak you might feel it around the exhaust joints or cylinder head joint can cause a ticking sound
Try and work out the frequency of sounds which might lead to crank, cam or a valve
I had a large gap under one tappet so much the valve cap came off and the exhaust valve never actually opened , result was a loud banging heard from inlet manifold as gases came out of inlet valves

Another thing I did notice is it makes a peculiar winding down sound for a few seconds when I turn it off. will get it on vid tomorrow

So the engine doesn't just shudder to a quick stop? Or does the engine stop and the winding down noise continues?

most likely turbo ,you can hear it as you have no hose and airbox fitted

Engine stops when I turn off then winding noise continues for a bit.
