First Time Starting

Remove fuel solenoid live crank till oil light goes out.
Replace live wire then crank again. Once bled & runs turn off. This makes sure your wires are good. Then fire up again
Got nothing wired up in cab yet just a big birds nest of wires :( no dials or anything, that's another thing Im dreading.
Always good to change the stat after 10yrs of doing nothing, but that's not what I was saying. Do the final coolant fill through the top of the stat housing. :rolleyes: :)
Yes got it Mate, it just reminded me of having a new thermostat.

You'll need to make sure non of the wires in the birds nest are live and shorting out :eek:
Phil means disconnected the fuel shut off solenoid so no fuel gets through when you first turn it over. This allows the oil pump to get oil to all necessary bearings before it fires up. Otherwise it could fire up and run dry for a moment or two which would not be good.

Be patient! I know you're keen to get the engine fired up, but you could do serious damage that will be an absolute nightmare to diagnose and fix if you connect the battery and turn the key. Also, if you start the engine oil dry you'll cause damage you can't see, but will cause problems later. More haste less speed!

Thanks Mate, have just wrote everything down, will take my time. If no one hears from me tomorrow night its coz Ill be in the huff coz it wouldn't start. :rolleyes:

There's a VERY good chance it will start. Don't worry about getting it to start, if you bleed it/push the diesel through, as James Martin described earlier, it will start! Even if you don't do that, but you have a good battery that will turn it over for a while, it will probably still start! I know, after months of work, you will be keen to see life in the beast :) However, I would strongly advise erring on the side of caution.
 
does anyone know Which pipe I will need to connect from Vac pump to Servo, cant see anywhere on mine where it would go in to, and cant see it in Parts Manual either.
 
I would be more worried about shorting out any loose live wires and sort the birds nest out before running the engine to make sure its safe and you dont bugger anything up or start a fire. Also connect up the oil pressure and coolant temperature switches to the instrument panel. It is always tempting to start up an engine after a long project but caution should prevail to ensure all your work will not have been in vane.
Good look with it and I hope everything goes ok. Keep us posted on progress but steady away.
 
Well it's cranking but just can't get fuel through, plenty in the tank been trying to prime through by hand but nothing. Battery getting flat now.
 
Well tried everything but no joy, Just Could Not Get Fuel through, no matter how much I primed lever on lift pump, and it did not come through on cranking, then battery went flat. Must have been doing something wrong
Think if it had got through to filter it would have fired up straight away.
Was a Bad day all round my Fuc!!!ng wheel bearing in Disco collapsed, think I need new stub axle now :mad:
 
are pipes from tank to lift pump correct
Was thinking that myself, Knowing me probably not. In Pic. 1 goes to Tank, 2 goes up to filter housing, and 3 comes from Tank To Pump

I do have a Thread on here all about when I fitted pipes but cant find it. Now I think that Number 1 in other pic goes to here, But will check tomorrow.
