Faulty Lifters

New lifters in and all is quiet again (at least from the tappet end of things).

A few pages earlier I described a light 'knock' which is still there, disappears if I hold the revs or on over-run but is there when its under load and only noticed it when the engine is warm, cold engine seemed quiet.
Any idea now the lifters have been taken out of the list of suspects?

maybe little ends if its there under load

Check its not yer down pipe blowing slightly, I nearly had a heart attack untill I worked out what mine was, havent fixed it yet though :D

Mmmm, deffo sounds like a knock and no puffs when I blip the revs (thats how I found the head gasket was screwed, smoke & oil coming from the join)
Maybe little end. Bloody typical, big ends can be done with the heads in place, don't think the little ends can though.
1 tin of Wynn oil additive now added but the noise is still there. The tin says it treats up to 6 litres, is that enough?

Gonna have to change my sig now Fett lol.

What you suggesting?
Fill any available orifice with sawdust, add a little fuel, stand well back and light blue touch paper?

No, old farmers trick of putting sawdust in anything that rattled or knocked. Mixed with the oil and quietened most things off - until they could be sold at auction..:D

(Same same as putting the thickest gear-oil in you can find but these are only anecdotal tales you understand....)

It works exceedingly well on differentials. Or so i am told.:D:D:D

Dont say that hammy, it will fook up now :p

I wouldnt worry about little ends, they dont work very hard. Just drive the fooker now and if she blows she blows, get her home on yer truck and fit a used engine.

Just make sure you have some real engine oil in it this time, that diesel you were using is no good! :p

Or go and buy a proper range rover ie a classic :mooning:

Had one years ago, 200 TDi. Good motor but died eventually after a couple of years abuse, poor starting, clunks, bangs and pulling to one side under load. Had to go to the yard in the sky haha.

I think I've got 7 1/2. Gotta be the only explaination for the **** poor performance whenever it sees a hill. Goes like a stabbed rat on the flat though.
