Extra Heating in a Defender

I have been thinking about this as I am usually wet and cold when I leave the stables and a warm car would be nice.

Not being very mechanical (though I am learning) I decided that instead of extra heating I need to reduce the space the current heater is trying to heat (the back)

So now considering ways to block the back from the front, there are no seats in the back anyway.

Trouble is I would still like to see in my rear view mirror, any ideas.

Fume Curtains

here you go Dear :D

I've yet to sample my Defender in deepest winter. I'm guessing the fact that I sometimes catch flashes of daylight around the edges of the doors is an indicator of what to expect :D

On the plus side, the heater turns the thing into a bloody furnace once the engine reaches temperature. In the interim, a bloody good coat is in order I expect.

Fume curtain is the way to go definitely....my ex army 90 ( now gone ) had no heater worth talking about and no roof lining carpets etc...and as previously stated I could see fresh air in a number of places too...

I made a fume curtain from an old canvas roof with Perspex rear window.< well it wasn't actually that old, it was a damaged black canvas with a really good window>...it really made a big difference and could be rolled up and secured to a roof brace when not needed....

Still got it somewhere I think too !!!!

I could be tempted to part with it for postage costs and a small donation to Help for Heroes if your interested

Cheers

Nice gesture with the donation too mike :clap2:. Here Sue, you should take him up on that offer & if you don`t I may have to.

Regard`s, Dan.

Hi Sue, I got your PM thanks....

I am currently away from home for a couple of days and then need to find it...it's in my garage which my son has filled to the brim with car parts & interior for a project he is currently working on...

I think I can put my fingers on it quite quickly but please give me a few days...

I will take a photo once I find it and put it on here and then you could decide if you want to give it a go !

Cheers

Mike

Mine is ok when under load but at tickover for prolonged periods in minus conditions it struggles to emit even Luke warm air.

I don't know if LR do one but a hotter stat would help that, I use 2, a 75 for summer and an 88 for winter time...

my fender heater was always toasty, mind the engine was knackard, might not work so well when i get the new engine back.
so good engine but cold cab or knackard engine but warm cab. Sod it ive got a coat

What engine? My V8 and my 300tdi could both kick out plenty of heat no matter what the weather was like. Even my series 3 kicked out more heat than my td5 does on tickover in cold weather.

My series 2a didn't have a heater when I bought it and me being a tight Yorkshireman I wasn't prepared to pay stupid money for a crappy 2a heater.
So I extended the heater pipes using copper pipe so it ran at the bottom of the windscreen and then down the bottom of the dash and back to the heater outlet, there's no blower but it gives good heat and demists the screen good enough, plus as an added bonus you can warm your hands on the pipe! :D :D
