Thats handy to know, how experienced are you with powder coating? I always get people asking me about it and theres loads of bits I am always wanting done, how big will your oven be? Also have you gone down the electrostatic route?

Oven is 8ft x 4ft x 4ft. Electrostatic power coating or fluidiser dip tank. I got shot of my last rig 2 years ago when we downsized the vw business.

Cool beans, sounds good, might have some stuff to come your way. Was it aircooled VW's you did? Do you still get involved with them if so?

How come you went for the quaife over ashcrofts own?
Have you got the tools to fit the diffs and Pegg them yourself?

yes i now have a jig for the holes which bolts onto the mating flange, setting up a diff isnt too hard just a bit of measuring and some engineers blue needed, the welding is a little more complicated that just mig welded due to what the diff casing is made off so those will be tig welded or mma with the correct rods and preheating etc...

bolts are just dog head ive ordered a load and corresponding lock nuts and the phosphor bronze i have on the shelf.

Bit of a long sorry on the diffs......

Good to know mate, I know where I'll be bringing my locker when i finally get it ;) :D

I removed my egr valve today (all by myself) just waiting for my blanking plate off ebay £2 and for Brian to bring the inter cooler pipe round :) then I've still got a knackered truck! That i reckon is in need of some new push rods & a cambelt kit "cry cry cry cry" :(

Been thinking about getting on of these kits 3" UNIVERSAL INTERCOOLER KIT TYPE Y 600x300x76MM BLUE | eBay
What do ya think guys? Or not worth the bother?

i keep considering doing something with the intercooler but not sure if i can be bothered, i dont mind its slow on the road and i cant see much gain off road at slow speed and covered in mud im sure it would quickly heat soak and wont be much gain to be had..... i may be wrong tho..

one thing i was considering was adapting the manifold and remaking the downpipe to accept a vnt turbo such as a 2256v with the right setting up i recon you could gain a **** load of responsiveness and low down grunt

nice one! those egr bolts can be a right pig sometimes, surely your not updating landyzone while DJ'ing lmao

The mac is djing & I'm just doing a little dance whilst "crying" about my broken truck! My last truck cost me £££ within the first days thanks to a wheel bearing!

Are those the ones that are fitted to merc sprinters? How would you control the vanes?

yes i think its the 270 merc sprinters use them, also the x5 i think???
some are controlled by air pressure, and could be made so there self controlling.........also thought about a digital boost controller, controlling air pressure to the vane actuator

I got lost looking for a 10mm socket to remove my egr valve!

Come dance with me you pair of geeks! We can all dance like girls :)

I have been thinking about turbos recently, I was thinking of going down the route of a Garrett T28 turbo, 360 bearings e.t.c, its a mid size turbo but is renown for its speed of spooling. The defender uses a 4 bolt flange which is universal between the Garretts I believe, it would just be a case of adapting pipework. I need to get some tech specs first really and maybe get a hold of an old T28...

powwwwwweeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!
