Looks like you should have rebuilt the old one, I think its the same as mine. Mine is more like a rumble at the moment.

Ian, check what box your fitting, the 200TDi really needs the LT77S box and not just an LT77 that your TD would have had (I have doen a bit of research into all this since I need one as well), it is the standard fit to all 200 defenders/discos and is a straight swap between them. You can also rebuild the R380 down to a short bellhousing but it costs about £300 for the parts, I was tempted but for the agro im just gonna stick another LT77S in mine...

Jon, I heard your the man to talk to about a rev counter. What one did you use, been looking but most of the ones on ebay don't do land rovers.

I used this one:

12V/24V 52MM UNIVERSAL TACHO/REV COUNTER. 0-4000RPM. Original Durite. | eBay

Its a direct replacement for one of the smaller dash gauges, the only thing is it sits a proud of the hole and not flush like the current gauges, I have replaced my temperature and fuel gauge for similar ones so it matches a bit better (plus my fuel gauge stopped and we all know the temp issues). At night they are very bright and really overshadow the speedo although I am looking into upgrading the back lighting on the speedo.

They are easy to fit, you just connect to the W terminal on the alternator, you have an adjustment on the back of the gauge for different alternator outputs. It is so simple to wire in as there is a hold directly behind the dash, the rest utalises the current wires.

That's ok with what I'm doing as ive made a centre console at work, this is the only one i dont have.

Have you got a plan y or z yet. There cant be much left after what you have done so far.

I am considering pulling out the new bearing I just put in, taking out the spacer between bearings and try the tdi set up and see if that makes a difference. If that don't sort it I guess it must be swivels, then as James said when he had a look whip out the thinnest shim.

When my mate used to race motorbikes, people in the paddocks used to say , its the dog that wags the tail.
