Impact driver to undo them? It has a phillips head on it! I was going to ask are there special tools i need to undo them?

I was aiming to roller it because its easier and hell of alot cheaper haha!

impact driver is the best ,and if captive nut turns drill head off ,striker plates are held with bolts that screw into a nut plate at the back if you cut bolt heads off plate with nuts will come away
 
Hey Im not new to landyzone but havent used it much so if i seem slow then i dont mean to be rude

Anyway. Im from Rayleigh in essex and im wondering where the nearest green laning locations for me

I have been slowly customising my defender 90 for the past year, I dont have a winch and i dont have good suspension, if there isnt anything close I was just thinking is there a some green laning locations further away but is more sutable for a newby?

Also if there is a meet that is nearby for green laners at all?

I would like to get more involved with other people who have an intrest in defenders so any help is greatly apppreciated

The hinge screws are nuts and bolts on the door side, captive nuts on the wing side. Its good for getting the captive ones out but with the nut/bolt one it will just turn, you are better cutting the nuts off with them.

Just a standard center punch is all you need, get a kit from machine mart or somewhere similar, dont bother with fancy stuff. One of the best places for tools is car boot sales, the old stuff is the best stuff, some of my toolkit is from my grandad and well over 60 years old....

If you look at the top of the forum there is a section there which explains how to find green lanes, its very difficult to explain where they are as they aren't roads as such and wont show up on most maps, you need an OS map. Best thing to do is come out laning when we organise a night, hopefully some time soon, just waiting for everyone to have a working truck first!!

Dont worry about being a newbie, there are very few lanes that are of any real difficulty really, if they are there will be an easier route through most times. I took a friend out last weekend for his first time in a Pajero on AT's, first lane we hit we was faced with 2 footbridges in the road, it took a while to get his back out the ditch (had to cross a wheel on the bridge and one in the ditch) but thats part of the fun... First time I went out with this lot I spent 2 hours in a 4ft deep hole in -5 temperatures, that was an interesting and bloody cold night!!

Oh right so basicly take the door cover etc off from inside then just snip the nuts off then buy new and for the captive nuts just do it after i have the door off as i guess it will be looser due to no weight on them??

As for the centre punch i dont even know how to use the poxy things haha!! im useless at things like this im learning fast and its great stuff but i never have used one. so any help is great!

Also james are you saying that i can get to the nuts for the stricker plate from behind?? If so tahts ace i will have to see that then i can jsut undo the nut!

I'm out Sunday morning but only for light lanes and fords.
Taking a friend and his kids so will be stopping lots and allowing time for the kids to play (nets on sticks ect).
Happy for people to join me, but it'll be a slow and gentle trip and I'll be heading home after lunch.

Hi Mate
your more than welcome to come along with us , just keep looking in this thread and feel free to tag along, all green lanes around here you can easily do in a standard 90. There is a LR meet at Brentwood once a month and usually a laning trip once a month, PM tuskenraider he goes and sure he will give details of any meet.
If your after something a bit more serious you have the pay and play sites at canewdon, chelmsford or bures all within an hours drive.
 
just finnished off fitting me extended brakelines and took the ole girl for a good test drive, im happy to report there is no adverse affects from the lift so im well chuffed big big thanks to jon for the parts;), so bring on billing, a weekend of beer, landrovers, offroad course and oh more beer bring it on:);):D

Is that all you can think about, beer and off road driving.
Good the lift hasn't thrown up any issues.

Thats great thanks for the invite, I will keep an eye on it. I have been past the one in canewdon and i just want to try the cheaper way first and hopefully will be hooked on it.

That's where we would stay yes, but I don't think its been booked.

After last year when it was not very busy I presume we can turn up and pay, but I could do with calling them first. Do you have a number for them?

We would be up there Friday evening.
 
Have fun all. We might see you as we going up for the day on Saturday instead now as it was all left to the last minute and plans changed left right and centre and nothing booked etc lol. Ill call you when we get there Brian. Plus its Ford Fair sunday, and i like a good RS Turbo/Cossie me!
