For the sake of clarification. There is a huge difference between towing ropes & straps. and Recovery Straps. you should only ever use rated lifting straps or strops as they are often called. for recovering a stuck vehicle. Once the vehicle is standing on a tarmacced road then by all means use a towing strap or tow rope to drag it home. But don't use them to recover a stuck vehicle. They just aren't strong enough.

I was asking about lifting strops because I can order them through work and just pay the boss back for them. And aren't ropes and strops illegal on-road? I thought it had to be the bar thing now.

Nope towropes are still legal. Another misconception some people have is that it is illegal to tow on a motorway but it isn't.

If you can get strops trade thru work then go for the longest you can afford and get 2 3.5tonne rated Bow shackles as well.

If yer get em new you should get the rating cert too.Which is nice.

Yeah, I have a few lifting strops with the certs tags cut off, from a mate who used to do specific contracts and had to leave all certs/paperwork at the clients, so they could never be used commercially again .. Some of which were never actually used, just bought 'in case'.

OK. Updated list of things to get before mid-Feb (my first proper green laning trip hopefully)

Need to have:
1. Hi-jack lift
2. Lifting StropS

Like to get for the landy in time:
1. CB Radio
2. Roof rack (making one as we speak)
3. Another spare wheel
4. Hand winch
5. Snorkel
6. Waffleboards

Reckon I'm looking at about £700 worth, am I speaking sense?

Mate to go with? He'll pull you out, take the **** and plenty of photos when you get stuck. Being stuck on yer own is ****e, being stuck with some one to help you is funny.

No shortage of people to go with!

2 guys at work (but their in Mit****bishis (sp? I'm dyspastic) and Toyotas)
1 guy from my old school
Met 2 guys from round my area on here
And one guy who I randomly met at Stanage a few years ago.

And since you mentioned photos. I better get myself a camera! Never really been a fan of photos myself, but I suppose it could be worth it.

I like. I might take it out in one of the fields later, get it muddied up and stuck and get some pics on here.

Then I can pretend I'm a hardcore greenlaner!

... and this is me stuck. North Yorkshire a couple years ago.

Bit less I think. Ebay will have all the things you want. for a fraction of the cost of the big 4x4xRipoff dealers.

Don't buy too much to start with, just make sure that when you go out, you're with others who watch the leader through and stay at a point where they can recover you .. ;)

£250 for a CB???? I bought a brand new tti-770 with an areal and mount for less than £70 and it is absolutely perfect! looks good, has 80 channels (40 UK + european) and a scan function.
