What evidence makes you conclude that? Just curious.

Depending on who the person is, the judge may agree.... ;-)

Because when I lived in DB (admittedly several years ago) if you were on the
beach and you even attempted to go out of the driving lanes/designated
parking areas, the beach rangers would be all over you like flies on sh*t.

What's annoying to me is the fact that "COMPACT" spaces even exist. The lot

This is why there should be no "COMPACT" spaces - there will always be some

Well, if you can fit more cars in the space if people would be willing to
actually pay attention to where they park and maybe some will have to
actually, *gasp* walk, you can fit more parking spaces in. That's the
whole point. Of course then you hit the reality that people can't park
even when in small cars (I had a neighbor at my apt complex who had a
little geo tracker and couldn't even park it well) and there are plent of
assholes who just can't be bothered to walk a few feet so they'll fit
their car in anyways. Heh, my apartment when they repainted the parking
lot took out the compact lettering on some spaces in front of my apartment
ause no one paid attention. Of course you can still tell it was compact
spaces cause if people dn't park straight in the middle, some one has a
hard time getting int heir car without denting some one else's door.

I normally park as far away as possible, no worries then about people
hitting me with doors, runaway shopping carts, or anything else.

Exactly. Plus there's less problems with driving through lanes full of
pedestrians.

Of course, when your summer car has huge doors like my 3rd gen 'bird, it
helps if the spot next to you is empty. ;o)

Do we know that there IS a lawyer? It costs lots of money to hire a lawyer.
No lawyer will take this case unless there are deep pockets on one side or
the other. -Dave

That assumes that the plaintiff or the defendant or BOTH are rich.
Otherwise, there won't be a civil suit. I learned that the hard way. While
the plaintiff would have a strong case, she won't find a lawyer to take the
case unless she can pony up several thousand dollars in advance, OR the
defendant is rich. -Dave (been there, needed to sue someone, would have
won BIG TIME, but didn't have the cash to hire the lawyer)

Hmmm...yeah I agree.

What's annoying is the fact that it's against the law to rob banks.
There will always be some asshole who tries to steal money anyway.

You clearly have never been to the San Francisco Bay Area. Here there's
no such thing as "far away as possible." If you can find a space in a
parking lot at all, you shed tears of joy.

Never been to California at all. Here there are always spots on the fringes.

I've seen places where these "fringes" are over a mile away, and even
then, it's hard to find an empty space.

It must be nice to live where there is an infinite amount of real
estate.

That's why there should always be tow trucks on call.

Sure, we can do a lot of great things if you can count on people not to be
assholes. Unfortunately, you will never be able to count on that, so best to
plan accordingly.

As Donald Trump likes to say, "cover the downside, and the upside will take care
of itself."

Not to mention SUV-driving soccer moms parked cop style (driver's-door to
driver's-door) having a little chat...

What good are painted lines that try to suggest efficient use of real estate
when there are an infinite number of assholes who will ignore the lines and do
whatever the hell they want?

What a utopia you must inhabit!

I used to live in a city where, by law, you could call the towing company
directly whenever a vehicle was parked illegally on your property (e.g. in your
reserved space in the apartment complex). Invariably, when you call them, they
arrive well after the perpetrator has departed.

I said "should be" - generally, these are lots owned by some business
who are reluctant to tow their customers (or tenants).

I've got a friend who won't hesitate to call the city to have cars towed
when their blocking his driveway - and they usually get there in time.
It doesn't happen very often, and they usually don't completely block
it, but he shouldn't have to drive over his curb to leave home.

True, but that poor design/layout is nearly always mandated by local zoning
authorities who insist that parking lots be "landscaped" (contain needless
obstacles such as islands and trees). What's wrong with plain old flat
pavement and plenty of it?

To make sure that people don't drive like fools, duh.

I used to have an office overlooking one of those plain old flat pavement lots
with nothing but stripes to impede. There were car-car collisions at least once
a week and car-ped incidents at least once every couple of months.
