Disovery Mpi

Hi all.
I have a question about t-cases.
Here in Greece, due to heavy taxation, the Mpi is a a solution.Underpowered ,ok I know but when on low gears,it does fine.

I was wondering if someone has tried dual t-cases on the Disco 1.
You see, since the Mpi is underpowered ,lower t case gears and specificcaly low gears that can lower the high ratio as well as high ,will help the small engine to move the truck better.

What can be done to make the Mpi stronger as it concers gears?
For example ,my Sidekick (vitara) runs on 33x12,5x15 with 5,12 r&p with dual cases (vitara+samurai 410).So even if its only 1.6 LT ,it have enough torque to start easily even with 2nd gear from stop.I usually use only 3rd and 4th gear.Of course i Know that freeway speeds is out f the questions

Anyone here tried duals ?
Any other thoughts ?

Presume you are thinking defender transfer box???

I m not very familiar with Landys at this point.I m trying to get as much info as I can by searching ,asking ,e.t.c
I m thinking of buying a Disco,preffertable till '93 model ,for 3 reasons.
Cause it has a large interior that can comfortably hold my family and cargo, cause it can be bought in a very reasonable price and its more reliable and less complicated than newer models (facelifted) and last, cause I always liked the Disco but I couldnt afford one in the past.Of course I know about its moody character , but I dont mind.

Since the V8 is very thirsty and also taxed too high hear, its the last option.
So the best deal is to get an Mpi on the grounds that I will be able to figure out how to run it using lower gears (high ratio especially).
I know I can replace the 1.4 high ratio gears with 1.667 ,can also try lower R & P's (i.e 4,11 or 4,75) but I want to have some alternatives.
The dual t-cases are very helpful both on road and off road.As far as I ve seen on my Vitara,it helps for fuel consuption too, cause you dont have to drive it at high rpm anymore,it has much more torque at low rpm.

Now I dont know about the Defender Transfer box , R380 ? ,but some more info/proposals would be helpful.
I ve searched also in Pirate4x4 but didnt find something similar.
How can I use the Def t-case ? give me some hints to help me start thinking.

On the other hand,if you think that by replacing the stock 1.4 high ratio gears with the 1.667 ones and maybe get lower ratio rings and pinions would be enough, then ok.I m not thinking of using bigger than 235/85/16 tires, but I m going to get roof rack,a decent susp.lift and use the Disco as capable off-road and family truck.
Thank you very much.

At 18, you might be better off with (dare i say it?) a freelander. A diesel one ofcourse.
I know they're not ideal, but it would be a better alternative to a disco mpi. And they do look the part, and if you go for the 5 door you get plenty of space.

Hey, freelanders are ideal. I once looked at the mpi but heard that the cylinder head was prone to cracking between the valves. From what you guys say, if it's even slower than the dog slow tdi models then thank god for td4's with roverron boxes:D
