So, I've starting looking into the 3 link setup for the front, been reading a **** load of stuff on Pirate 4x4.. think my head is going to explode!
Found a nice thread about front setups. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/gene...ix-my-broken-front-suspension-geometry-3.html
This post is very useful to explain the anti squat calculation on the rear Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum - View Single Post - Link suspensions for dummies?
Also been messing with the Excel spread sheet :)

Has anyone built a 3 link setup before??

Bit of very useful info on the configuration outcome!

With non-parallel links that converge "at the same crossmember," the IC is always right there at the crossmember and cannot move in relation to the COG. The only thing that changes as the suspension cycles is the slope of the line from the axle to the IC, and therefore where that line intersects.

With parallel links, the IC is an infinite distance away in front of the vehicle, and changes height depending on the slope of the links. IOW, the IC location changes position as the suspension cycles, as well as the slope of the line.

With non-parallel links that don't converge at the same crossmember, the IC location and slope changes position as the suspension cycles, just like the parallel links, but not as much depending on how close to parallel or actually converging they are.

Dropped my winch in the front today, going to run the solenoid up a bit higher, so I need to extend the wires.
Any idea where to get some ones that are beefy enough!? Maplin & Halfrawds don't have much.

Welding wire forget halfrauds you will pay wayover for something very unsuitable your be pulling 400a maybe more at peak serious wire rec

welding cable is ideal because it is cheap enough and multi braid so very flexible

ideal for winch wiring tbh, and it is available off the shelf by amperage :)

Just search online most shops have them I crimp with a press and a tool I made then solder the joints over the stove when the mrs isn't looking!

ive done a fair few 3 and 4 link. your fab work and calcs better be up to it or you will die:eek:

I've found Plenty of info regrading the rear setups, but little on the front.
I'm pretty clued up on how to get a setup I want. and my fab work, ill get it all the arms tacked and welded up by a pro, like I did my rears.

Bit of progress this weekend, got my winch in and all sorted, got the roll cage front section done and on the front out riggers.. still need to do the roof but that's for another day!
Also got the new rear brake line in and the 1st quarter panel on, the others won't take too long to get on now.
Need to patch a bit at the front, plumb the water works up, sort the interior and that's about it for the MOT..
Then on to the 3 link setup!

Not finished yet, but I towed it home in rush hour as my old man is having his drive redone and I was not too happy about leaving it on the grass outside!
Here is how it is atm, the view from my living room.
