Hi all, im thinking of fitting a disco 1 rear axle onto my 200 defender. Can anyone tell me if It's a straight swop or is there any mods needed? Also want to fit the transfer box too, to make it a little better on road, is this a sensible mod? Does anyone know of any links to previous threads with these items in? Or just able to give me the right info?

Thanks

straight forward ,t/box will need a couple of 8mm holes in end of speedo housing to take your defender hand brake assembly and swap speedo drive for your old one .with axle just make up new pipes for calipers to t piece

200 Defender what, 90 or 110?

Disco onto 90 easy, done it myself. Disco onto 110, no becasue you will have a Salisbury and apart from minor differences (like the prop will be too short!) it isn't load rated for the 110 anyway.
Disco transfer box is a great conversion, had one on my 90 for over 8-years now and since day one I couldn't think of driving with the standard box again.

It's a 110 with the Salisbury mate, what's the difference in load ratings between the two? Is the prop off the disco longer than the 110's? Would that not be suitable?

youd be much better getting a disc salibury or converting yours to disc ,t/box swap is the same

I'm not after the discs,It's the diff on the fender that is knackered, and I've a disco axle lying around.

Thanks Jamesmartin the tranny will be dropped in but will have to try and source a new diff for the Salisbury.

Cheers to all who posted

Better to look for a Salisbury axle someone else has changed, the diffs are not the easiest things to rebuild in to the casing.

you need a genuine wolf axle.. they are awesome and armoured.. stupidly expensive though.. i think you're looking around a grand per axle these days.. madness..

OK , i am new to 90s if i put a disco tranny box in a 300Tdi will i get better fuel/road use from it as i use mine on the road 75% of the time ? thanks for any info.
