No not really, if you are clever you fix something once maintain it and it stays fixed.
The same can be said for the far superior V8

Most if not all head failures can be traced back to repeated overheating which is down to failure to fix a problem like a duff viscous fan. The camshafts are made of steel on the M51 unlike the V8 where they seem to be made of cheese. No problems with ignition coils plugs or leads either and it's luck of the draw as to whether the liners will slip or not on the V8Apart from Op?

What about the cracked blocks?The V8 has a Flat tappet cam, the lack of ZDDP and the use of incorrect grade Oil will cause premature wear on any FT cam, not just the Rover V8
The Overheating is also what causes liners to drop, look after it and the thing should be ok

Funny, but the M51 doesn't suffer from those problemsThe Rover v8's casting in some cases was poor.
Which caused the water jackets to be "off centre" the thinner wall cracks when the block is cooked, the block shrinks away from the liner and thats it.
Depends on the engine, luck of the draw in some cases,
Human error as always, some blocks made it through though "coscast" blocks were the pinnacle of Rover V8's..
