Defender hire

Hi there - I really hope you don't mind me joining the forum solely for the purposes of this post but a colleague said I might be best off trying here..

I am getting married in June in Oxfordshire and I am looking to travel to my barn wedding in a Defender (green if possible!). It's about an hour journey from my house (Berkshire). I'm not after one of these hugely fancy shiny vintage cars, just a green defender will do - so long as it's clean on the inside!

If anyone knows of someone in the Berkshire area who has a landrover defender who'd be up for helping us out (obviousy we will pay!) please get in touch.

I think that the plan is to 'borrow' one off a member of this forum as opposed to hiring one

Strangely enough I was in a Funeral Directors office yesterday and found you can have a Defender Hearse if you like!

A specially converted 2012 110 CSW no less......

One of the Mags did a feature on a company that did hearse's & wedding limo landies.

Personally I wun't be seen dead in one..

To be fair to him it's a reasonable request... he's offering money, not expecting someone to hand over the keys, but, to drive him... if you're in the area for a few hours work it helps out a landy fan and earns a bit of pocket money.

Mine's Corris Grey though so not much use

Be aware that your insurance is unlikely to cover hiring, whoever is driving. Though giving you a bottle of good malt whisky in return for the favour would be OK.

Yeah it's a fair request, good little earner for someone I would think. Although think only an hour away needs to be clarified into miles

I've just remembered that I actually own a green 110 station wagon. It will need towing though. About 2 hours each way. And putting back together.

Well it was a long shot and you don't get if you don't ask so was worth asking in my opinion.

I hadn't even thought about insurance to be fair. Our wedding is a pretty informal do, a friend doing our vows and getting married on a farm.

I'm not intent on hiring a big old glamorous classic car was just after a defender because I really like them

Don't give up yet, try some of the local off roading club forums as well as here.

But as it's your wedding day are you sure a defender is the right vehicle, I know it's expected that the bride turns up late, but their not meant to be covered in oil after fixing the wedding car o the way
