Defender after market callipers

My front brake calliper are well past best..discs tell quite a story!!!

Replacing the discs and hoses.

But have question regards callipers.

I was thinking about new pistons and seals but some say its a tricky job.

So noticed callipers for around £40 quid online. But wondering are these cheaper callipers just as good or not?

Just out of interest...was advised there are 2 different types of kits for Defender 200tdi's.something about different piston sizes??? Mine is a 1993 110 Hi Cap...anybody have any ideas on if this is correct?

I've used pattern calipers with no problems. I'd think they're better than putting new pistons & seals into an old caliper which will have some bore wear.
There are others on here with more knowledge than I though!

ive used a lot of the cheap calipers ,seem ok to me though i doubt they will last as long , 110 use a larger piston diameter than the other models ,disco ,rrc and 90s , though 300tdi 90s onwards also use the same larger piston as 110 , for yours if you want solid discs youd need rtc5572 and rtc5573 or if you want vented discs seb500460 and seb500470

James is there much advantage to vented discs? In everyday life terms that is.

Caliper rebuild isn't tricky really as trax said. I've done a few now. Buy good quality seals and retainers and it makes it so much easier.

As for vented discs. I don't think there is much gain in vented discs to standard. Other than better for heavy towing or someone who's on the brakes alot for some reason. I beleive the vented just aids cooling. Nothing more too it than that

depends if off roading they can fill with mud , but for road use they are better

the britpart stainless piston kit seems to come with genuine seals

Right thanks chaps...I'll look into this. I'm off road every day but also have to cover big miles towing heavy stuff so suppose its a trade off regards discs.

Although brand new callipers for 80 a set is tempting as a quick and easy job!

I've 2 weeks to get the following done...

New doors finally fitted and sorting badly misaligned passenger door.

New crossmember

New outriggers

Seats retrimmed

New seatbelts refitted

New propshafts

Complete axle overhauls

Timing belt and service

New pads, discs etc all round

New brake lines

New cab painted and fitted

New exhaust

New rock sliders fitted

New headlights

Front fascia refurbed

New rear tub painted and fitted

New winch bumper and bullbar attached to it

List of small MOT stuff

After this it will be ongoing improvements...unfortunately whilst in daily use...wishing I hag hung on to my old Jeep for a while longer until I sorted all this.

I rebuilt my original front vented calipers with BP pistons & seals many years ago with no issues, went together fine and years later still no problems.
2-years ago I replaced my rear calipers with BP replacements (originals too far gone to rebuild), no issues and the zinc coating still look like new.
