Any help or further advice gratefully recieved:attention:
I would expect that in the general mix from a garage it would be mainly
Engine oil
Gear oil
Water
Auto trans oil
Hydraulic oil
Anti freeze
Petrol
In that order? The only major prob is the water and anti-freeze? Petrol in smaller quantities is fine, gear oil mixed with the rest is that a major issue, or will it block the filters, i'm using 100,50 and 5 micron,?
The water and antifreeze will both settle out if left for about 4 weeks?
Thanks for everyones input in all this
Ok in reallity am i likely to kill my TD4 using this stuff if left to stand for a month, water and gunge draind off then filtered to five micron and then thinned with petrol to gain the same flow rate as diesel?
Thin if necessary before filtering as it makes filtering easier and quicker.Ok in reallity am i likely to kill my TD4 using this stuff if left to stand for a month, water and gunge draind off then filtered to five micron and then thinned with petrol to gain the same flow rate as diesel?
It will be fine. Water is the important thing to remove as it passes through the filters. All the other crud will be caught at 5 micron level. Anything smaller will do no harm whatsoever. Its what I've been doing for many years.
Why don't you do a test ? Bung oil, water, anti freeze, what ever, into an empty water bottle, shake it up and wait for it to settle![/quo
I won't know whats settled out of it, antifreeze etc, i know the water will settle just not sure wether thinners and stuff will settle, soilds are not a prob they'll filter out. If peeps on here who know about these things say all the harmful **** will either settle or filter out then i'll take the risk and try it. I've got 25ltr of crappy stuff and i'll try that before getting 100s ltr

Is thinners harmful? Is it worse than petrol? It'd be in relatively small quantities. It's a tricky one if there's any at all of course!

I would expect thinners to be ok, i may well be wrong but thinning oil with petrol is ok and would think thinners would be similar, point i was trying to make is, there could be anything in there (as you pointed out) but whats harmful and whats not? water is the main baddy, anything likely to be in there that will stay mixed with the oil and bugger the engine?
Shifty's been doing for a while and says "it'll be fine" or as we say up north "be reet"
Too much paint thinners will cause problems with the fuel vapour locking. It may also start to eat the various rubber O rings and components within the fuel system such as pump diaphragms etc..
