Coil springs or not coil springs

thats a nice truck ,but as the pic goes my mate does as much with his 86 90

you will note that with a heavy trailer on the back, the car is level. headlamp levelling is not on the P38 as the EAS keeps it level and doesn't blind other drivers at night.

good for your mate towing with his 86 90. a DAF CF can tow more than my P38 and your mate's 86 90 combined. we're not talking about towing capacity, were talking about EAS

no its not but is all you can do ie notice its dropping or lifting slower than usual and a visit to the garage
err yes it is.

an aircraft A check is part of the maintenance schedule. its a visual inspection. aircraft operating in the Public Transport category have more maintence requirements than a Range Rover.. despite what a dealer will tell you even though a dealer probably charges more !

hopefully but you can obviously can afford to

I cant afford not to. its cheaper doing it before it fails than when it fails and having to get it recovered. I do my own maintenance. coming from the aviation industry I expect standards that garages don't meet. I don't reuse old nuts and bolts. I copper grease stuff where I can.

if you cant afford to run a P38 and not able to spanner yourself and learn the systems don't get a RR.

People buy porsches and RR's for the kudos of saying they own one, and think they can get away with maintaining it on Nissan Micra money. you cant. period. you want to dance with the devil, you have to pay the price.

I don't own RR's or Porsches for any kudos, I own them for what they are, very capable machines in their individual rights and to own such a machine demands that I lern about them, what needs attention, learn what its telling me and how to repair it.

he doesnt need any advice the 90 isnt his only truck by any means its just he finds it a pleasure, and so it should if loaded correctly

err no it isnt, youd expect a check on an aircraft before take off, but looking at your leaning truck isnt maintenance its noticing a fault many have to see a garage to sort

loaded correctly doesn't change the fact that a P38 EAS is self levelling.

a trailer needs weight on the towbar, or it will snake like buggery and be unstable. weight on the towbar means weight on the rear and a resultant lever action with headlights blinding other drivers without self levelling. The EAS *is* the self levelling on a P38.

i'm honestly not being a dick or trying to be one, the thread title is coil springs or not. I'm saying not for very good reasons over this thread. The EAS is not problematic nor difficult to maintain, quite the opposite, just misunderstood and often ignored/neglected. checking it like anyone would check their tyres or oil or coolant will result in many years of failure free enjoyment of the capabilities and safety of EAS

thats all very well and good but not everyone can or is capable of ,and a cheap p38 is just that not a preserve of the enthusiast
not using decent used nuts and bolts serves absolutely no purpose on a land rover, and copper grease is for high temp conditions and has galvanic tendencies so why if you want lude use oil or grease

that's a pre-flight check an A check is part of the maintenance schedule. looking at your leaning truck and wondering why is part of diagnosing a problem. if you wish to. looking at the state of the airbags annually is maintenance

as im trying to point out for many eas is beyond their capability and pocket and on a cheap 4x4 truck its not essential however enthusiasts feel

no, oil change is maintenance ,noticing faults isnt on a car your not doing anything preventative to reduce costs like an oil change just recognising a visit to the garage for replacement

don't buy one if you are not capable of maintaining it or paying someone to

,and a cheap p38 is just that not a preserve of the enthusiast

there's no such thing as a cheap RR or Porsche. the value is in the maintenance done and not needed if its cheap it needs stuff, the cheaper the more stuff needed. see point above.

as you wish. I know my bolts come undone and torque up correctly and the shoulders are not chewed. id rather replace where necessary then get heat on or cut rusted bolts off. copper grease where correctly applied serves a purpose and well. you do as you choose, I have a very original P38 that everything works on (except the front cover gasket at the moment) and regularly get people comment on how nice it is even at traffic lights. and my EAS is faultless.

perhaps that's the lesson right there

so, say, checking wheel bearing for play isn't maintenance ?

then don't buy one. its the wrong choice. EAS is a system on the car if its beyond the capability to learn it and what to look for... back to the Vitara.

a RR is only cheap when it needs money spending on it

its not for you to determine who can buy a p38 and thats a large cross section since many are old and cheap bought to serve a function, its your choice others dont have to follow, and you cant bull**** me with vehicle maintenance its likely ive far more experience, not with airplanes obviously but we arent talking about those

so, say, checking wheel bearing for play isn't maintenance ?
its not maintenance in that your preventing early failure, its noticing a fault , on an earlier defender you can check for play, re-grease and adjust to prevent further premature wear you cant on a p38 just notice its failed and by the time you can feel that with a unit bearing its been noisy a long time prior

its not for you to determine who can buy a p38 and thats a large cross section since many are old and cheap bought to serve a function, its your choice others dont have to follow,

I didn't determine who can or cannot buy a P38, you did, by saying that some are not capable of maintaining the systems on them
and you cant bull**** me with vehicle maintenance its likely ive far more experience, not with airplanes obviously but we arent talking about those

not bulls**ting anyone. if you have far more experience with vehicle maintenance then fine. i'm cool with that. I have working EAS, you don't. you asked me how to maintain EAS. but I bow to your greater experience.
