Central locking annoyance

I have a 99 4.6 HSE Thor.

To be honest its had the fault since I bought the car almost a year ago but its been annoying me more than usual of late. The central locking works fine on all the doors from the fob.

However, sometimes when driving along the car will randomly lock its self. Pulling the door lock back up unlocks the doors and its fine. Some times it might do this several times in a short journey. Other times I can do a long journey and it won't do it.

Occasionally when unlocking the car, and opening the door it sometimes relocks and then unlocks again with no input from me however this is very very rare.

Basically I am thinking that its a door microswitch OR the RF receiver in the boot. Am I barking up the right tree? I have found that it seems to be better if I make sure the doors are slammed before setting of.

One final point, in the hot weather a few weeks ago with the windows open I awoke at 5am to the lovely sound of my P38 locking and unlocking its self every few seconds. However I have listened and watched it and never seen it do that again.

Any thoughts?

Get the latest RF receiver before your locks burns

A dodgy boot button can cause random door locking/unlocking but yours sounds like the drivers door lock. RF receivers is also a possible but can be eliminated by disconnecting it.

Its interesting you should say that as the rear button isnt the best it does sometimes stick in etc.

Is it just best to replace the drivers door lock if it is that? Or can it be cleaned/repaired?

Strip and clean the boot button see if that cures it. If not disconnect the R/F aerial (blue wire) and stand close to the rear O/S window to use your fob or both connectors and use your key to lock and unlock. Check which R/F receiver you have, you may be picking up spurious signals. Probably your boot button so go for that first

I'd be over the moon if it was! That's tonight job then is have a look at that little chap. They are not expensive to get a replacement I don't think if it comes to that.

Good clean and Vaseline on the spring, pay particular attention to the electrical connectors

The switch will be fine, the connectors corrode and are hard to clean up, I chopped the connector and soldered the wires on. Spring often rusts away, I made a new one from piano wire from the aeromodeller shop.
A new one is about £38 if I remember rightly

I made my last one out an old coat hanger, meaning to pick up some piano wire that weekend. That was a couple of years ago. I must have a look and see how it's getting on, one day - I'll add that to my 'to do' list.

My locks pulse all the time and the tailgate won't always open!!! I have repaired the lock so I Know it's that damn connector. Have tried electronical cleaner, so may have to solder the wires.
