So I have located a 2006 RR Vogue
Is there a way of finding out if its built with the dodgy ZF gearbox?
only have the reg number

are there any other things I need to look out for when buying
- intercooler pipes
- egr issues
- corrosion
- air suspension
- lights on dash

my friend has offered to give me his diagnostic reader from his garage where is the OBD port located

thats what I thought but confused will need to check with seller #

did the boxes also change with the engine

and am i right in thinking its the TDV6 boxes that are dodge

oh ok so guessing its advisable to stay away from the car?
If it has good history that shows the gearbox has been rebuilt, replaced or etc....then maybe it is worth a look....but the only way to stave off trouble with the GM5 box is to have it rebuilt with a replacement torque converter and have the valve block changed for the uprated Sonnax version....then you are on to a winner!

Water screwing the electronics in the NS rear quarter should be added to your list.

guys am i correct in assuming then that the 4.2 or 4.4 v8 petrol engines dont have issues to worry about regarding the gearbox?

if so i will look at petrol version

Gearbox is OK but they have VANOS problems with the engine, look at Saint V8's posts, plus all the electronic problems.

The Supercharged 4.2 doesn't suffer as badly with gearbox issues as it uses a newer, stronger ZF6 box - but without regular servicing, is prone to fail as everything else! But there are issues with LPG'ing a Jag derived AJV8.

Rebuild of a GM5 box with new valve block and torque converter is in the £2000+ range.

The M62TUB44 4.4 V8 of the 2002 - 2005 range LPG's well, but the gearbox is still a weak point - nowhere near as bad as the GM5 but in Land Rover/BMW's infinite wisdom (and to a degree ZF's - but they then changed their stance on it) they said it was a lifetime fill and servicing not required - ha ha ha - whatever!!

ZF now advocate changing gearbox fluid every 50-60k miles.....and this will prolong the life of the ZF5 box and there are reports of high milers on original boxes - but they will fail eventually.

An L322 Range Rover is not for the faint of heart and do not try and run one on a budget.....

saintV8 thanks for this think i may consider a Q7, Toureg or M class instead as they seem a little less problematic

i will keep you guys posted
