Probably cheaper to convert to LPG than fix that GM box!

Saint is the man on the L322, him and @holidaychicken. @gold rover must have replaced most of hers so she'll know the costs!

I have indeed replaced almost the entire vehicle :D I concur with @Saint.V8 , the L322 is not for the faint hearted, nor to be run on a budget. @Kamb please keep in mind, no matter what you can buy the L322 for now, the parts are still expensive, and the electrics a challenge. If you can do the work yourself, you are a step ahead, if not , even using a specialist, rather than a dealer, it is an expensive hobby.
I can't recall at the moment but I think my gearbox recon , including new valve, was around £2500. I am actually thinking , she is about due to for an oil change.

God himself smiles on the owners of P38's and keeps a close watch over them. ;)
Yeh maybe dan, on the way back from picking up two small people my head liner gave way at the sunroof end and sprayed us all with fücking foam... It was everywhere in the bus..... Windows wide open and all..... I thought it was an attack of bee's or something....

oh dear.... sounds horrible. Everyone' OK though?

All good thank you, I was holding the reline job off for a while as there are other more pressing things. As always, that are higher on the agenda.
Thank you for asking.;)

at a cost of 850 installing LPG i have had no problems. i was told the 4.4 run cooler than 4.2 on lpg so the heat doesnt cause a problem to the engine. . up to now its been great.my wife used the RR for work 130 miles a day. so soon got the money back from LPG, i have another 2006 with same engine but it has just started to run bab on petrol no lpg fitted to it. so it was doing 24 miles to gallon now after a light had came on saying vacuum valve fault. i changed it but still only getting 17 to gallon now. when i start it up in a morning the rev,s stays high form a longer time than before.. then after a couple of mins rev,s settles down to 700 im thinking fuel injector leaking. i was told to change the fuel cap to get a vacuum.is this a cause any one know of this. thanks

The L322 is a hobby / way of life / disease without any cure, potentially extremely expensive to maintain with no guarantee of fixing it no matter how much you spend on it, if you just want a vehicle to drive and be reliable then Audi / VW all day.
2006 is a dodgy year as anything past March i think and the tax goes up and also it is the changeover from bmw to JLR so there is a mix and match of electronics.
Keeping the tax aside, I would like to upgrade to a newer 5.0 V8 but I can neither justify or afford it so my V8 4.4 is still safe, for now..

Careful what you say. They hear you know? And then they hit you full force where it hurts.

VAG stuff apart from Skoda do not come out well in the reliability stakes.
