morning all, quick update, front end is back together with freshly matt blacked grill, just eed to sort headlight alignment. back door etc is all back together ,all electrics etc are wired in. exhaust is done, although im not to sure where is is , all thats left now it to prep and spray the roof on saturday and finish the interior before i can get my cage sorted and go cause havoc :D havent got pics to put on ,there all on my phone and i cant find the cable  lol so anyway, pictures will be up tonight .

cool thread, i like to see all the pics with the progress...

not keen on the paint job, but each to their own..

have you got any update on your call to VOSA?

so heres the next lot of pictures! as you can see all the panels and trims are back on,the polycarb rear quarter lights have been cut and fitted, front end is all back together and headlights aligned perfectly,in the last picture, its my exhaust :D
as for my call to vosa.allll is okay,i explained the situation to them, and because i have no altered the wheel base,i have not changed any suspension, axles, transmission or engine, i have not changed the brakes or the power of the vehicle, it does not need an sva as the original vehicles identity is intact. when i explain about the shortening of the rear over hang, i told them how id done it and what i remade the rear cross member from and they said 4x4 inch box is fine ,aslong as no suspension or axle or braking mounts have changed then it is classed as cosmetic. same with the body. soo all is good and all it needs is an mot when it runs out at the end of the year! so thats a result, me and the fabricator at work are building an alloy tank and custom boot floor mountings. im in the middle of making the rear seats so they are similiar to the side face defender seats. comments on these pics!

sorry to burst your bubble dolly but vosa dont make the rules on this nor do they advise on it they are soley the dvla and dft's testing department, try sending an email and pictures to these people explainig what you have done if you want a deffinate and legal conclusion.

[email protected] ;)

halo, the bloke i spoke to is the sva tester for dvla/vosa at my local test station, and it was him that said this,to top it off i then spoke to my insurance company, told them it was bobtailed, and they said thats fine and didnt ask for anything. so! if they will insure it,and vosa have told me i dont need an sva, then thats that. however.when its finished.i will take it for an IVA test to prove its structually sound. untill then. its insured.its safe.nuff said . and ta v8_disco, i like them alot, look better when painted green

exactly he's a "tester" and dosent make the rules'dvla do, reason i know this is i'm planning on building a 100" from a disco and have spent the best part of two weeks researching the in's and out's and finally ended up with the link i posted.

just thought i'd try and save you the trouble, good look either way and if it passes without being "Q"plated keep us informed cos it will save me and others lots of unnecissary work and expense.:)

i suppose that is a veryy good point halo, am i being ignorant in think that discos are already 100" wheelbase? or do you mean the chassis length? well as i said,as long as your not changing the wheelbase, or the original suspenion, axles, braking, engine and transmission then you will score more than 8 points on the sva test. in effect all ive done is cut out a rusty crossmember ,cut out the rust and welded a new cross member in. :) let me know if you hear anymore tho!

if you dont mind me being cheeky can i ask roughly how much you paid for the wheel arches? im going to buy some off ebay but i dont really know how much they are worth

i didnt pay for mine mate, i got them off a mate with a defender that brought2 inch extended ones, but i would pay more than 40 quid for a set as youll need to trim them anyway!

but you've shortend the chassis by however much is irelivent its classed as radically altered and gets a Q,cos thats all i was gonna do but as you stated in an earlier post your not too fussed about that but most insco's are.

oh and yes disco's are 100" wheel base hence the reason i was gonna use one and just shorten the chassis but apparently its not allowed.i did start a thread on it a while ago.

i have seen several bobtails be them range rovers or discos. all of them retaining their original plates.we will see what happens when the time comes . new pictures soon!

newest pictures guys, first two are my cable exit point for trailer electric socket, the next lot are the frame built behind the front seats to house the battery and the fuel tank and you can see where my fuel lines and my cable entry points are> check out my silver fuel tank ;)
