Due to a couple of enforced days off i Got the bonnet rubbed down and painted

Started today by cleaning and painting a few more of the faded plastic fittings

Then I fitted the remaining door trims, which seemed to take forever

Suppose it helps if you've got the right size nuts and bolts

Then Gave my gear stick a quick rub and paint

My uncle is back from his holiday next week so hopefully he can show me how to refit the turbo
 
Just removed the sump plug, going to try to fit the new turbo today, and it strongly recommends removing the sump and cleaning it, the oil looks like bloody marmite:confused::confused:
 
I would recommend removing the sump and cleaning it as well. If the turbo has let go, there is a strong possibility of bits of metal floating around in there!

I would recommend -
A Oil and Filter Change
Sump Removed and Cleaned
Oil Strainer cleaned
Oh, and using a syringe or similar fill the turbo with oil before you fit it!

First job, sump off

Filled it with petrol for an hour, then cleaned all the sludge out. Cleaned the oil strainer and painted the outside

Refitted the sump and rubbed down the inside of the bonnet

Gave it a coat of paint, I know it silver but I'm running out of green and no one will see it

New turbo fitted after a bit of fiddling with the exhaust manifold

Radiator, header tank and fan blade back on

Several litres of top quality asda motor oil in and we are ready to try the engine( asda oil is only a temporary measure to try and clear out any of the old oil that's still in there) it was only £1.20 a litre

Turn the key. Nothing!!!!!!:mad:

Ok I'm a div, forgot to connect the earth from the battery on to the gearbox

Rectified my mistake
Turn key
Starter motors fooked:mad:

Off to the shops tomorrow, hope fully ready to roll by the end of next weekend:crazy_driver:
 
Turbo looking good loving the red paint on the Exhaust, I was too lazy to paint that when I did mine.:eek: It will be a good test of the paint, that area gets really hot when worked hard :D
As stutab said, try and make sure the turbo feed pipe is full of clean oil before startup.
The rubber pipe between the turbo and manifold looks in really good nick, not so sure about the hose between the air filter and the turbo. If this hose collapses inside it really knacks the performance, and if bits come of it they will get sucked into the turbo:eek:

I have already decided that the air hose need changing, might even got a fancy pirtek one!

Pirtek might be good, I got a new genuine one and it was arms and legs, even though the parts guy is really good to me.
 
Great work Billy.

Quick question for those saying the turbo and it's oil pipes should be primed. Can you achieve the same thing by turning over on the starter with the glows removed and fuel solenoid disconnected?

Yes, people are being over carefull, they come with grease in for int start up anyway
 
Right then Boys and girls I done loads today

Started by swapping the dodgy starter motor for the re con one

Then put the heater and water pipes back in and filled it up

The fitted the exhaust, had to make a new bracket as the old one was missing

Tried to start it but the battery was flat:mad::mad:

Right, took the battery out of my uncles fiesta and she fires up in a spectacular cloud of black smoke, IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!

It was rattling a fair bit so we adjusted the fuel l
Pump which seemed to improve it

Fitted the front lights and some other bits, one of the head lights doesn't work but after the rest going well today I can live with that:D

Ive got all the receipts in a folder and I will try to add it up later, if I was guessing I would say around £1000 but that's just parts and paint, labour would be in the millions:D

still cheaper labour than having a service at Land Rover dealer lol been checking this out for a while now and my hat goes off to you mate you have done an excellent job on this rebuild

And for around a grand you can't go wrong! Bet you can't wait to get her back on the road!
