Started on my rear seat conversion. Kept my original XS front seats for this very reason, just took a year to find a pair of runners for decent money - £30 for a pair 😅

Using the original seat mounting points.

They fit. They are MUCH more comfortable and actually have some support. Also retained the original "seating height"

Secured down to the floor using LR front seat rivnuts across the bottom + two on the aches with some spreader plates. Plenty strong enough

Got to laser cut and bend some panels to finish it off. Fit the door so I can use the underside for storage. Left space for the derv heater as well.

Then paint

Also got a front middle seat which I'm going to try and fit but it's very tight so needs some more thought, if not it'll have to be a cubby box.

Welded the storage door in place today with some little bullet hinges. Held in place by 3 magnets, mostly to reduce rattle, will also have the same style latch as the cubby boxes.

Also made the side cover plates

With holes to allow a diesel heater to be fitted. Will be pop riveted in place for an OEM look.

All painted, zinc primer then matt black.

Will install on Weds 😄

Middle seat definitely doesnt fit which is annoying, bit of oversight on my part but if I spread the main seats out further they wouldnt be as comfortable.

So either got to cut it down, re weld it, add a recliner mechanism then have some custom uplostery. That sounds like a lot of effort for a seat that might get used once a year...

Ill keep the seat and keep the idea in mind, never know may need one.

So im thinking back to cubby box/fridge. However the annoying part of a cubby box is loosing that fold flat ability which does come in handy.

On the plus side if the fridge goes there for trips I dont need to draw the slide out/drop down fridge slide.

Thought…
Shrink the middle seat . Instead of reclining to get flat, could you tilt the whole seat forward into the footwell area?

If you do shrink the seat who would be able to fit on it?

Frames all painted, adjustments made. Beefed up two off the connections from M8 to M12 because it was easy to do.

Just waiting for the clasp for the storage door. Ordered a MUD Stuff cubby box, slightly larger than the OEM one so should fit nicely in there. May get the lid trimmed to match the XS Seats....

Best day ever 🙄

Noticed the exhaust manifold gasket was blowing. On removal found it was split on cyl 1 blowing on 3, 4 & 😬

Changed the studs to longer ones from Gigglepin, well most... couldnt get 3 out and wasn't risking snapping them. So they stayed.

Not tooo bad....

Also found then clutch slave was dripping with fluid so changed that too. 3 years isnt bad for a slave right? 🙄

You got a diesel heater going where you have the pipe sized cutout?

Cubby box in. Made some little quick detach brackets underneath, so can still fold flat with relative ease.

Just needs a proper clean now! However recent passengers have already said how much better it is! So thats a win in my book.

Plus a nice autumnal photo for you all

My headliner is due back Tuesday, so much for the 1 week turn around 🙄

Also ordered an X Eng unlockable anti roll bar. In true me style can be left standard so already looking into ways of making it switchable from the cab.... 😅

Off the Wales at the end of the month for a few days laning!

Got my headliner back after being recovered with alcantara. Its so plushy and nice!

ABSOLUTE BAST@RD to reinstall!

Cage was easier
Axle swap was easier
Dare i say it swivel balls easier 🤪

Its still not in, because the fir tree clips are too short. In part because of my excessive soundproofing which i now strongly regret....

So if you plan to do it, do not fit acoustic foam to the roof.... even though it compresses it makes for an absolute bast@rd to install.

However ordered new, longer headliner clips which should solve the issue. If not then its back to what i did in my DCPU and countersunk rivnuts.....

Finally, for what ever reason even fully cleaned, keyed, plastic primed and used PIO (that sticks to bloody tyres!) The paints already coming off the sunroof surround 🫣🫣🫥

Win some loose some i guess

Something i have always wanted to try out.

The X Eng lockable ARB.

Fitting was pretty easy, only basic tools needed. Instructions are mediocre as youd expect.

Very well thought out using mostly off the shelf LR parts - They also supply the p/n and no gate keeping which is lovely!

Flex when unlocked is pretty much the same as having no ARB at all, im using a comparison to my old 110.

When locked its rock solid but comfortable and considerably more solid than stock but a huge distance. Cornering is almost flat, with a cage im very impressed.

Tarmac traction is genuinely improved by a noticeable amount over a stock ARB. I expect youd even notice it against an Eibach or similar given the ARB is actually a rear passenger side drive shaft!!

Honest opinion? Fairly expensive but I think its a very clever, very well thought out kit that so far works extremely well. So if you want the adjustment I do then its definitely worth it.

Me being me already looking and a way to make it switchable from the dash via air or 12v. 🤣😂

That’s a good idea.
So is that a standard drive shaft?

Now for some ideas…

If only they made small air locker Diffs, use the centre diff no crown wheel. 2drive shaft to suit.
Or air/electric actuator onto the free wheel hub end and slot into the twist part.
Them hubs used to seize up when not used

Another thought…

There used to be free wheeling hubs that lock automatically as the wheel/drive shaft turns. This sounded like witchcraft

Unsure how far the shaft has to turn before locking/releasing. Also may mean the ARB is always disconnected till it’s too late.

Think they were made by map or avm

Yeah standard drive shaft, its just been zinc coated, as its out of the axle case.

I know right!! Im already thinking, got a couple ideas but they arnt perfect but would work. Going to chat to my engineer friend to see what we come up with!

The free wheeling hubs are from AVM, the auto locking one does sound interesting but it feels too obvious for this use unless thats why it was overlooked? Ill have a look.

Didnt have much of a chance to see how the hun worked but it cant be that difficult to modify
