IPSWICH SUFFOLK
hi anyone help me with this as its getting on my tits:eek: . when i arm my alarm on the key fob the indicaters flash and the horn does a quick toot:mad: , it only started this today and sometimes when i arm it it does the quick hoot then it just goes off:mad: . so i have to disarm it again. it never used to do the quick toot bit so any ideas . is it the key fob battery????? i've checked all the doors and windows are shut after arming and they are all closed.

The toot should be a warning that a door is not shut properly. I know you said you checked them all but.... it's a Freelander, each with it's own character.:p You can always lock with the key in the door, which should disable the alarm.

hmmmmm tried with the key but the alarm still goes off sometimes. looked through old threads on here could be something to do with the heavy down pours we've been haveing. any idea where the micro switch's are on the doors (3door hardtop). could be the problem but cant see them. thanks for your help anyway :D

have you had the hard top off recently??? there is a micro switch halfway up the offside post where the hard top meets the body (offside I think) - other m/s are obviously doors, tailgate and under the bonnet

Isn't this a gentle way of your lovely Hippo to let you know the keyfob battery is getting empty and needs replacement ? I once read that the moment one starts getting strange behavious by closing the doors etc. it means the battery needs to be replaced. Don't know for sure whether it's so but I sometimes got it also and I replaced the batteries (both the key and the spare) and re-synchronised both afterwards and since no funny things happened anymore. Good luck.

sounds like the mislock sounder to me when you lock it but not sure why the alarm then goes off, the micro switches are internal in the latches, you will just get a beeping from ccu when you 1st unlock car when plip battery is low,

I tend to get a hoot when i arm when the window is down. There could be a microswitch to sense when the window is up/down. thereby setting the alarm internal sensors so as not to false alarm. I'm having a panel off this afternoon to fix a loudspeaker, will have a look whilst I'm there and let you know what I find.

thanks guys its still doing it so gonna try new batterys first. i havent had the top off yet ,(the car or the missus lol). just hope its nothing expensive. like i say everything is locked and up so dont know why it does it .

I think this is indicated by a buzz from the cab rather than a parp from the horn. One of our fobs has started to do this - no replacement batteries since 1998!

the interior light keeps comeing on and the door open warning light on the dash when driveing so im now guessing its either a short or a switch gone somewhere, any ideas where too look

Sounds like one of your door latches is sticking[but it is also true that a low batt in yer fob will give a parp] but if yer interior light comes on then more likely ya door or rear window ,spray all locks with plenty of wd 40 or try and determine what door or window. . .:)

thanks will try that. most garages round here wont touch a freelander alarm found one bloke who specializers in alarm and imobs. but the rest just said take it to your main stealer..

scratches head thinking how to diagnose which latch will be faulty, lol.

i can only suggest some one with a t4 or testbook. you can use real time display to show door switch operation, it says wether the switch is open or closed. only thing is it will probably need to be faulting at the time of test.

Hi easiest one to test is the bonnet 1st disconect the connector under bonnet as these do play up when they get wet,it wont be the micro switch in rear door as if tripped the rear window will drop as well, so rule that 1 out,if your rear wiper works it wont be your back door, so now left with 2 doors,if you have targa roofs they do tend to leak, well the aerial leaks causing microwave sensor to screw up in roof and sometimes interior light to short out, next try leaving doors open and latch the lock then wiggle wires that run through the doors to a post,if all else fails set fire to it all the best tiga.
