Hi, all my dad has got a 2000 range vogue and the heads have gone so took it to a garage and they charged £900 to re-skim and fit new gaskets, to be then told after paying the block was cracked and needed a new engine....he then went on to purchase a gems engine having being told they are the same and would fit!!! now the garage have fitted the gems engine and are now saying it dont work due to the cam sensor is in the wrong place the added they have drilled the hole bigger to make the cam sensor fit ( as it was bigger ) now they are saying after my dad has paid out £900 for the initial bill and £650 for the gems engine and £400 for fitting it they want it gone out of there garage and there is nothing they can do..... is it possible to get the cam sensor to work??
Thanks would appreciate any advise

yea already bought it and paid a lot out on it ... i have moved thread now to its a v8 section with more successes thanks

I don't know anything about rangies or gem engines, but it sounds like you need to take it to a mechanic that knows that engine.

I think more info is needed about your legal position.
How long has he had the motor?
When he took it to the garage, did he tell them the heads "have gone" and needed just that fixing, or was that their diagnosis/recommendation?
Who told him to buy a gems engine? You're not clear that it was the garage that told him that, or sold it to him.
Really not sure about the cam sensor issue. Are they trying to fit the original engine's cam sensor to a different engine?
