Thanks for giving me some things to check before dishing for injectors. Those things are pretty pricey compared to any diesel engine i have had before. I need to do some research on how to check/adjust valve clearances. The rest should just be tightening. Little curious about the turbo...

just got it back today, haven't had much chance to look into it but vac pump and lines are my first guess. will know more tomorrow.

got My 109 back today after having the stearing box, transmission and transfer case replaced. ( the steering box was just bad, the tranmission and transfer case came with water in them. . . it wasn't pretty.) Steering is still a little dodgey but way better than it was. Probably need to look...

Wit hte 200tdi i run a heavily filtered mix of waste vegetable and motor oils with regular diesel to cut it. seems to work pretty well and keeps costs down.

I have my '78 109 wherei want in mechanically 200tdi to lt77 to lt230. No i want to get the interior set up. Boost and oil pressure guages, xtreme liner the interrior and seal and pad the whole thing. . . lots of detail work to make it more comfortable but still rugged.

multi-meter. The number of times a $10 multi-meter has save me time and money diagnosing an issue. I <3 my multi-meter.

I have always wanted and LPG truck, but it is apparently much less common in the U.S. and a Land Rover on LPG would be exceptionally rare. I ended up with a converted '78 109 200tdi diesel so a LPG conversion is not in my future. How do you like the feel/upkeep/etc of the LPG?

That kinda thing is why as soon as i bought my Landy i bought a AAA membership (prepaid towing/roadside service, not sure if they exist in the U.K.) Already more than paid for itself getting me towed off a disturbingly high suspension bridge.

well if it is oil burning at idle and oily smoke the engine needs a rebuild (it likely needs one anyway) but if it smells of diesel than it sounds like it is over fueling to me. Tricky bit about diesel engines is how much everything smells and acts like oil. . lol

good info. My truck runs just at the bottom of the red, but right now the Heater core is not plumbed into the loop. I am curious to see what the temp does once the heater is in.

ok for the record tansmissions work better and have greater longevity when filled with transmission oil rather than water. . .

agreed wheel bearing or brake issues. more likely the wheel since you were breaking and hadn't recently. Also just seconding, for the love of human life, that you should not drive it.

all you need is one o' them turbo sound makers the kids put on their hondas and you're set!

you probably do want to get a new exhaust manifold and just get the whole turbo outta there.

Y'all don't need to go through that there turbo. It is just a restriction and with no guts it isn't doin a dern thing. I figure with all the slang thrown around in here i am not familliar with a little southern yank couldn't hurt :P

All positions does nothing, but it's nice to know what it should do. :)
