Had my first "breakdown" today.

Well I'm not sure if it counts as a breakdown but it caused a lot of faff anyway...

My landy failed an MOT last week so I had it in a garage today getting some welding done. Cycled to the garage to get it back and was driving home when it just started kangaroo hopping. Fuel gauge was telling me I still had a small amount of fuel but the engine finally cut out. I tried the hand primer on the lift pump and nothing came up so I guessed it had just run out of petrol.

I was pointing uphill and wasn't that close to the kerb on a busy road so thought I'd let it roll back and get it up on the verge using momentum. That was a bad idea. Didn't get enough speed up so as I went left hand down the back wheel just didn't go up the kerb and the front was then sticking out further than it was before!

Stupidly hadn't taken my phone with me as I thought I'd only be away ten minutes so after hanging around hoping somebody would stop and offer help for a while I decided to cycle home and get my dad's petrol can. Was worried the rozzers wouldn't be happy about me leaving a car blocking half the road but there wasn't much else I could do so I absolutely bombed it on the bike. Luckily only a mile from home.

When I got back to the landy there was a half mile queue behind it! Got it home ok with more petrol in the tank but for some reason idle speed is way higher than usual. Will try adjusting carb later.

Bad day!
Worth checking ya fuel filters make sure theres no crap in them as can drag water, rust and other ****e from the tank when that low.
At least you now know where the bottom line is on the fuel gauge!

glad you got out of it, isn't it funny how things like that only happen when you don't take a phone with you.

That kinda thing is why as soon as i bought my Landy i bought a AAA membership (prepaid towing/roadside service, not sure if they exist in the U.K.) Already more than paid for itself getting me towed off a disturbingly high suspension bridge.

Getting home on the back of a wagon has been known to happen with landys

Note to self: put a balaclava in the passenger seat box....just in case I break down in an awkward place

cure get rid of ****ty petrol and put a oil burner in.
never run out again you can always get some red out of your local freindly farmer lol

And spend another hour at the side of the road bleeding the system.
I'd rather run out of petrol than diesel.

Changed the Fuel filter on me 300tdi last week. old filter off new one on Cranked it over and kept me foot to floor.. Priming Why??

It's not always that straight forward - particularly with older doozils

As far as I am aware if you are stranded and in need of diesel you can use red! If I remember correctly you can ring local police tell them that you have had to stick red in. You then need to contact the HMRC the next working day and pay them the duty. Was told this by a truck driver years ago.
