How many more faults can my Hippo develop!

Tis the rear one, I fitted a new IRD and VCU already. This noise is best described as a loud 'snick' but it only happens between gear changes as I clutch in. I have searched the forum but I can't find anything about rear drive shaft bearings?

How many more faults can my Hippo develop!

More then the other side, just feels like a slack bearing. Hard to put a figure on it, maybe a couple of mm either way?

How many more faults can my Hippo develop!

My bloody hippo is now making a 'snicking' noise when changing gear.... I think it's worn driveshaft bearings on the offside rear. If I grab hold of the driveshaft I can move it about a bit so I assume this is the fault. How hard are they to replace? Do they pop out easy or is a press and/or...

Tailgate: something you might not know.

That would explain a lot of things about Freelanders.....

    ABS sensors

I haven't looked yet, just wondered if anybody else had tried before I venture off through the undergrowth to find out! :)

    ABS sensors

Can anybody tell me if the ABS sensors fitted to a R reg Rover 600 would be the same as the ones on my S reg Hippo? I have a scrap 600 for parts....

    Oh no, three Amigos now!

I sure have the Freelander curse! Now, ABS light is normally on until wheels have done a turn or two going forwards, ok.. Started the Hippo and reversed it out of a long drive round a sharp bend and, three amigos! Can this reversing from start up cause this fault? Can I clear it with a battery...

    Cold start question.

I checked the primer bulb a couple of times before starting and had to pump it five times before it went hard! :) Does this mean I need a new rubber...... Fleabay has 8mm, 12mm, 5/8 and some others!! Anybody tell me which size pipe is fitted to my L series diesel Hippo?

    Polishing machines

I just used Simonez gel on my bumpers, works really well and seems to last ok. Don't have the bumpers painted! I have seen loads of Hippos with ruined bumpers when the paint starts to peel....

    Cold start question.

Brand new six months ago, exide heavy duty? Spins the motor pretty quick. Only thing I was going to try was injector cleaner, I held off doing that to see if there was anything else wrong first.

    Cold start question.

So if the timing is out that way how do I ask for it to be checked? I know a Rover trained private garage that I can try but he charges! :)

    Cold start question.

I got my Freelander pump timing checked today, garage said it was spot on. They said they 'pegged' it up and checked it that way. It made no difference to the cold start problem! Is it possible for the main timing belt to cause this problem then? Garage bod insists that number 4 heater plug...

    Freelander Ird removal

Just to add.... I bought a new VCU from Bell a few weeks ago, it turned up badly damaged by the courier. Bell were excellent about it and had it repaired and back to me ASAP. I like companies that try hard to resolve problems, Bell are one of these companies in my humble opinion. I am not...

    Looking at buying a 2000 (W) freelander Xdi-info required

I just bought the same model 98 vintage. Check all as already stated plus check carefully electric windows including the rear door window and the central locking. Look for wet carpets by the back window (may be dry now as for some strange reason it's not raining?) IRD faults and VCU faults...

    Recon IRD oil leak

Hmmm, no answer as yet from the supplier! :(

    Recon IRD oil leak

Darn it, my new recon IRD leaks oil where it links to the prop, at least that's where I think it's dripping from. The bottom of the output shaft area is wet and the top of the subframe is soaked. Is it easy to pull out the offending seal and replace it or am I going to have to get the whole IRD...
