I sure have the Freelander curse!
Now, ABS light is normally on until wheels have done a turn or two going forwards, ok..
Started the Hippo and reversed it out of a long drive round a sharp bend and, three amigos!
Can this reversing from start up cause this fault?
Can I clear it with a battery off reset?

When that's fixed there is the cold start, (L series lump) changed the fuel filter, checked timing, checked glow plugs, replaced injector bleed off pipes, replaced bulb primer, where else can the fuel system let in air? Seems to start better from cold if I 'pump' up the primer bulb so I assume it's air getting in somewhere?

AARRGGGHHHHHHHHH!

Solution, I have had time to check all the ABS sensors today, all read 900 ohms so I supposed they were ok? Went to see a mate at a local garage and his new Snap On fault code reader works on the pre-2001 Landrovers! He read the ABS for me and it shows no faults. He then re-set the fault lights on the ABS/Traction control/Hill Decent. Now even after reading up on here I didn't know that this fault needed a re-set. The only thing that seems to have caused it was reversing the car from startup about 25 metres followed by slight uphill tight bend, all in reverse. For some reason the ABS ecu didn't like this and flagged a fault. Hope this helps someone else with a similar fault.

I tested the hill decent last night, first time I tried it!
Do you 'normally' get a whirring noise under the bonnet and what feels like brakes coming on at different times?
Weird sensation for the driver......
