If you press the unlock button on your keyfob for 3-5 seconds the tailgate glass will drop all the way down .

I only found that out last year, Freebiker told me.I have told other freelander owners and they were surprised

no they'd never read or hard that it did that .I read it in the owners manual when I bought mine about 6 years ago.I think I read it as press 3 times ,so no wonder it never worked.
 
It's true

If you press and hold the unlock key for a few seconds then the tailgate window opens, to close you put key in tailgate and turn to right and the window will close. You can also close it with the normal button on dash.

Land Rover say this is because you may not be able to gain access to the boot if a vehicle is parked too close and you are unable to open tailgate.

It's great for dumping a bag of shopping and the going off to buy some more.

We've been doing panic checks out the window to check if the tailgate glass had dropped on my hippolander after it strangely dropped yesterday when we weren't looking, now we know what happened :eek: :eek: :eek:

Should the front driver's window have a one-touch opening?
 
It might seem cool but the reality is that most probs don't even know the feature exists and I bet 90% of gaylander drivers couldn't even tell you why you're able to open the rear window. Therefore, they probably haven't thought of any practical use for it. Thus, making it completely useless for 90% of gaylander drivers. Personally, I wish it was just a plain old simple door. I've never seen anything as ridiculously over-complicated in my life.

When it's all iced up in the winter, you may as well pretend you don't even have a tailgate door because chances are, it won't open. (door can't open unless rear window drops half an inch) Which is really useful when you need to get your tow rope out the back to recover a Nissan Micra in the snow. Guess that's what they call Land Rover engineering!

It's not just Land Rover who use this system, the Volvo CC has the same arrangement with the sidewindows, and my mate couldn't get into his car until he'd defrosted it enough to open the door, this is from a manufacturer who is used to building cars to work in sub-zero temperatures.
 
it has been posted on here many times - sure i did it in 2006 :p.

Mainly coz i kept my keys in my pocket and wondered why the window would keep dropping randomly :eek:

Drivers window one touch drop is an option, which is either enabled or disabled in the phooter. Bit like the start driving and the doors auto lock option.
 
Having the glass drop is a great idea you can stick ladders ,bits of 4x2, guttering and other assorted ods 'n' sods in if you dont have a roof rack or a trailer.
