My Range Rover Classic expedition project (ongoing, pics etc)

Well, I managed to take her out for her first proper greenlaning trip this weekend, try out some of the changes I've made recently! Myself and CarlV8 followed half of the route round north Hampshire in this months LRO. Pleased to say she performed faultlessly, thought I'd shae some pics of the...

Hampshire greenlanes in this months LRO

Anyone go and explore those lanes today, then?

Hampshire greenlanes in this months LRO

Yeah lane 4 was great, those trees were quite tight but mainly due to the approach angle. Get the angle right and all was good!

Hampshire greenlanes in this months LRO

A few pics as promised - cars are my '94 soft dash RR Classic V8 Vogue SE (on EAS) and CarlV8's '95 Discovery 1 V8 ES: Me, trying to determine where to go next! Carl being vain ;) On the best lane of the day, 'Greenlane 4': Then Sandy Lane lived up to its name, and added some...

Hampshire greenlanes in this months LRO

Yeah we did, had a great day out! We just did the parts south of the M3 as only had a few hours, really. Funnily enough Wyck Lane was the one we missed - took a wrong turning and ended up bypassing it for a pub lunch! We did do White Lane and the one directly opposite it, Westers Lane...

    What snorkel is this?

Will do - although I'm usually in Wales on two wheels rather than four! Really, want to sell it to me?

    What snorkel is this?

Rusty brackets aside, that does look good! Is that drainpipe? you don't live around these parts anymore do you?!

    Classic 300tdi vs p38 2.5 DSE

Did they just lie and call it a 4.0 to try and make it sound a bit better than the Classic? wammers - I agree some Classics look dated, but I think the later ones are just pure class and will never truly age! An early, base model P38 on the other looks ropey as hell. Having said that, the...

    New head unit bought!

Is this a P38 or Classic?

Hampshire greenlanes in this months LRO

Afternoon all, thinking of heading down to explore the greenlanes in this months LRO around the Hook/Alton area of North Hampshire and Surrey this weekend. Has anyone travelled these before, any to avoid or recommended? Looking for non damaging ones really, nothing too tight, just want to...

    Classic 300tdi vs p38 2.5 DSE

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that! The P38 was certainly a step on in terms of packaging (interior space), ride and handling, but I prefer the Classic's styling and I would argue that they are, on the whole, more reliable. Also, there's no noticeable performance difference between my 3.9...

    Classic 300tdi vs p38 2.5 DSE

Not all Classics are rotten - the chassis on mine is as solid as any P38!

What makes the Disco II such a popular overlander?

Yeah I did notice he removed the air suspension, but then a high speed run is a lot different to a normal overland trip! I just think the advantages of air suspension outweigh the potential for a blow out - everyone says that happens a lot, but no one can give me an example of someone they know...

What makes the Disco II such a popular overlander?

That is true, but the London to Cape Town record team chose one and I've seen a few in LRO/LRM making their way round/through Africa, Australia, etc. I've got no problems with my RRC, I love it, but lots of people malign the air suspension and yet I was just thinking how all the "new wave" of...

    Val D'Isere, Croisiere Blanche, etc...

I've read loads about these sorts of events in France, and the idea of driving across snowy mountain ranges sounds brilliant, as does scaling them in the summer. Weirdly though, I can find very little about either online! Is Val D'Isere still an annual offroad event? If so, when does it happen...

    Classic 300tdi vs p38 2.5 DSE

I'd say "yes" to your question. If I could have found a decent 300Tdi Classic for the money I would have got one. I the end I found a good V8 on LPG instead. The 300Tdi Classic is quicker and more economical than the 300Tdi Disco, as the body is a lot lighter. The 200Tdi may be slightly more...
