Afternoon all, thinking of heading down to explore the greenlanes in this months LRO around the Hook/Alton area of North Hampshire and Surrey this weekend.

Has anyone travelled these before, any to avoid or recommended? Looking for non damaging ones really, nothing too tight, just want to have an enjoyable days laning, see the countryside but not chew up any lanes or end up stuck down a very narrow one and digging ourselves out - getting stuck is for pay & play days, after all!

Also would like to do a couple of fords, but with the recent snow (melting?) and being in a pair of V8's, am conscious of the risks - any on the route we should avoid?

Cheers! :)

Dunno which lanes they are, but most in that area are fine. Done most in a Freelander in my time... Water Lane is the only tricky one.

Will have go buy LRO i think. I only just got mine recently so done a few around here. What day are you thinking going out?? Contact "Gil" on here. Know he knows the lanes around here.

Mike did you make it out??? I brought LRO today and went to do Wyck Lane, got to the bottom but very muddy and frozen solid. Almost got stuck had to reverse out of it.

All the lanes round this way are pretty well kept if I had seen this before I could have showed you about a bit as we have ben out for the day doing some of the easier lanes

Yeah we did, had a great day out! We just did the parts south of the M3 as only had a few hours, really. Funnily enough Wyck Lane was the one we missed - took a wrong turning and ended up bypassing it for a pub lunch!

We did do White Lane and the one directly opposite it, Westers Lane, Stancombe Lane, Brick Kiln Lane, Sandy Lane and Tilford Lane - which are Greenlanes 2, 3, 4, 6 and F, J, K and L in LRO. They were all pretty good in one way or another, but all perfectly driveable - generally solid with frost.

Yeah was very impressed, they are pretty well signposted on the whole and well kept! We saw a few walkers and all seemed OK, but then we were trundling along slowly and neither of our cars looks like a pay & play special, which I think helps. Did come across a load of scroaty kids on Tilford Lane on a mixture of 125cc moto-x bikes and 50cc scooters (yes, really!) but they kept out the way and didn't seem to be up to anything untoward.

Just uploading some pics of the day, will post them shortly :) We will definitely be revisiting that's for sure!!

A few pics as promised - cars are my '94 soft dash RR Classic V8 Vogue SE (on EAS) and CarlV8's '95 Discovery 1 V8 ES:

On the best lane of the day, 'Greenlane 4':

Then Sandy Lane lived up to its name, and added some variety to the snow and mud we had experienced so far:

Great day out :)

Looks like you had a good time :)
Lane 4 in LRO is quite a goo dun nice tight through the trees eh? lol but still totally drivable
Saw an old boy with his misses out walking round 5 was area, so I pull over and let them pass but he had a face on him like I had ****ed on his chips lol really wished I had said something now.
I have the option of doing a P&P at brick kiln farm tomorrow or doing some lanes think the laning is winning at the mo (its a lot easier on the car)

Yeah lane 4 was great, those trees were quite tight but mainly due to the approach angle. Get the angle right and all was good!

looks like you had fun. Yeah I like that bit thru the trees then down to the main road.

Brick Kiln P&P anyone else going?? How do you get to it, is it just of the A31 four marks road?

Hey guys. Just been out to do bit of Laneing and BYWAY that runs past ALTON Golf Course is blocked by a burned out van!<br />

You are legally allowed to 'abate' an obstruction, ie tow/push/roll it far enough to get past it.
