Freelander 1 Howls during first half a mile when cold

Nah, that's a different sort of whine, and doesn't go away. But you can learn to ignore it or turn the stereo up. The latter often causes the level of whine to increase though! So better to just ignore. (Although it has to be said can be quite an expensive whine)

Freelander 1 Howls during first half a mile when cold

As the title says, just recently when starting from cold, I get a kind of medium pitched howling noise that is speed related for the first half a mile or so. Then it disappears until the. Ext time I start from cold. It's not engine related, as I can coast in neutral and hear the howl/whine...

    Roof mounted aerial....

As Tony said, there is a nut that can be accessed by taking the interior light fixing off the bracket it is attached to. If you need to replace the whole wire the roof lining does loosen off if you undo the visible bolts in the pillars and pull back the door seal. Hopefully for just changing...

    Freelander Project IV (Bertie)

This has been, (and is) a great thread. So please keep the trolling off it, (and other threads). Jim

    Freelander 1 rub strip

The problem with that BM part from Rimmers is that it's not genuine. I ordered one from them for my 3 door. It turned up and seems basically like rubber cable covering for floors to stop trips. With a bit milled out for the door recess. And a rounded bit poorly glued on for the end pieces. I...

    Freelander 1 rub strip

If it's no longer available separately, it's going to be a case of keep looking on eBay, or see if you can get something half decent from a breakers

What have you done to your Freelander today

Reached 100k miles! (On an 03 TD4). - now it's going to be all downhill; clutch, injectors, sensors etc... hope not as have been doing some nice long trips in it this year. In the short term however, I need to sort the leaking rear diff driveshaft seals, (just ordered). And the rust behind...

    Freelander 1 rub strip

Do you need the whole set or just part of the set? The individual parts may be available still (they were for a 3 door when I looked earlier in the year (check albrit.de for part numbers under the accessories section) - fortunately I saw a genuine set brand new turn up on eBay so got those...

Lack of power and fuel pump problems

4K, and 100 miles per hour, wow. Not something I do much of in my hippo. Isn't the top speed somewhere around that mark?

I've put a deposit down and now concerned

Photo looks promising. If you make sorting the tyres a priority it will remove the strain different combinations put on the drivetrain. Enjoy your hippo!

I would tend to agree with others that it's probably not a bad vehicle, as it has a lot of service history with a main dealer. The reason the main dealer probably didn't know about the VCU problem is that by the time it reaches the 70k-100k milage, most owners are not paying through the nose for...

I've put a deposit down and now concerned

Can't you just call the seller and ask if it has the propshaft still on there. Or ask if it's had a 2WD conversion? Alternatively, if they don't know, ask them to take a quick picture on their phone of the underneath the cabin showing the exhaust running along the middle of the car. If it's...

I've put a deposit down and now concerned

+1 on getting some new oil and filter in the new vehicle. It's dead easy, and would probably take longer to drive to a garage to have it done. Once the new oil is in then you can gradually work through the other fluids and filters that could do with doing. All for a lot less than it would cost a...

    NOISEY HEATER BLOWER

    Thanks Mike.

    NOISEY HEATER BLOWER

I think you are dead right. Looking at the Rave pics, the blower is accessible from the drivers side. I think I must have been thinking about the heater matrix removal - which does look like fun. Hopefully it will be straightforward to take out and give a clean to get rid of the irritating...

    NOISEY HEATER BLOWER

Isn't it a remove the whole dash board job to get at the heater blower though? Mine is making annoying squeak occasionally, but at the moment I can't be bothered to dismantle all that is necessary to get to the damn thing. Jim

Freelander 1 Rare bits up for grabs...

Think is 3 door specific only. Or else the much cheaper 5 door roller type shelves would fit. Sorry to hear you are having to part with the hippo. Good luck with the house! Jim
